Male Anatomy Practice

Hey guys!!

Since long i have wanted to start zbrush and make my sculpts…but things kept coming in my way. Finally i decided to just start with it…and came up with this…Male Anatomy.I want to sculpt perfect male anatomy and want you guys to please guide me.

For this i have taken male base male model for zbrush3.5R3 and tried to just sculpt upon it the various muscle groups.I am looking for making beefy-ripped muscular male guy.Palms and face are still not sculpted and will update this thread as soon as i sculpt them.

looking forward towards your critics and comments.

Find good (great) reference photo’s…
Form before function - (get your main muscle groups together before working on details)
Take your time - relax and learn as well as sculpt
When I model photoreal models I always work at lower levels to block out form…
Work on the model as a whole - try not to over work one area more than another.
I can’t stress enough to find the form in the model before adding your detail.
It appears you already have a solid understanding of form -
Good luck and have fun…

@Sixxpixels - Thank-you so much for commenting.
Actually, first i was little intimidated by zbrush…LOL.Now, slowly i want to gain foothold into this software and using the default base mesh for sculpting was really confidence inspiring.I totally agree with your saying that form should follow function. But my problem being for now that i am still finding form and working towards it.Still i need to understand the origins and insertions of different muscles. So, i started this project to get an idea of these.

Thanks again.ill post more updates soon.

You should sign up for this class if you have the extra money - Scott is truly a master… He’s the guy studios hire to come in and teach their modeling teams anatomy… I signed up for the class and I can’t fricken wait!

Hey man, you most recent image doesn’t work.

But I’ll make a couple of comments for you that might help you.

The sternomastoids are way over pronounced and off in proportion for a “muscle” guy. It looks like a tendon running from behind the ear to the sternum, and not muscles.

The pectoral majors do not connect correctly, and are out of proportion and shape, they should tuck under the deltoids, no matter how well built they are.

The biceps need to thin out before hitting the bend in the arm

The top abdominals come out as far as the pecs, no human bodies do this, they should be roughly aligned with the “6 pack” below.

In general I think you might be making a fundamental error of “drawing what you know, and not what you see”… that just means our mental images of anatomy and other things can be easily distorted if we are not focused on real world examples. Really get in and pay a lot of attention to that anatomy while you sculpt and he we will start to look awesome I’m sure.

Best of luck!

@ OBZ - hey, thanks a lot for your valuable comments, brother.
