Making an area "wider" (Xadd)

Here, look at this. I’m trying to sculpt the shirt of a templar, which he wears above the chainmail…

Problem is: I modeled the shirt in the right proportions, but when I subdivided it, especially the shoulder parts got thinner and thinner. See the image.

Q: Is there a way to “broaden” the shoulder part? I’ve tried with masking and deformations but that looks silly…

Any hint?

Cheers,
Ephialtes

Okay… my solution now is the “move” brush… that helps a lot…

Sorry for asking so quickly

If there’s other/better solutions, please don’t hesitate: You can never learn enough

Subdivision smooths the mesh which tends to make it smaller. You can avoid this behaviour with a simple procedure:

  1. Before subdividing your imported mesh, turn off Tool>Geometry>Smt.
  2. Press Tool>Geometry>Divide.
  3. Press Tool>Geometry>Lower Res.
  4. Press Tool>Geometry>Cage.
  5. Press Tool>Geometry>Del Higher.
  6. Press Tool>Geometry>Smt. This turns smoothing back on.
  7. Press Tool>Geometry>Divide until you have sufficient density to sculpt the detail you want.

You may be able to import your original mesh, follow these steps, append the mesh as a subtool to your sculpted mesh and transfer the high res detail using Tool>SubTool>Project All. Store a Morph Target at the highest subdivision level before using Project All so you can use the Morph Brush to tidy any irregularities.
