While engaging in an electronic conference with the Muse, I brought up what are called, Magrittes’ Problems…
These were a series of parameters he thought of for artistic experimentation. The idea is a stretching of creative thews, by the application of fixed ideas as a starting point for a creative experience. Here are his ‘Problems’ :
Enlargement of a detail.
The association of complementaries, ie: leaf/bird, mountain/eagle.
Animation of the in-animate, ie: Shoe with toes.
The mysterious opening.
Material transformation of objects, ie: Chrome apple.
Anatomical surprises.
By now, you’re asking yourself, ‘What the hell is he on about?’
I propose to open a thread, (following sufficient interest in same being expressed here), titled “Magrittes’ Problems”. This woud be a thread for images based on these above-outlined concepts.
This could stretch us all, and I await the decision of the forum, regarding the worthiness of this thread being initiated.
Magrittes’ Problems wouldn’t be a problem for me…
GET IT!?!?
I’m game.

A further thought on the organization of this proposed thread…
We would take the ‘Problems’ in the order above.
Each topic would be live for one month.
I will start the first topic, ie: ‘Problem’ one…subsequent to that, it’s a free-for-all!
Let me know what you guys think.
I think that doing this one ‘Problem’ at a time will give us some nice coherent, and yet diverse art.
It sounds like a great ongoing series of challenges, and something that we should all be able to benefit from. Count me in, too!
as time permits: yup! another great idea, Stonecutter!

The Muses are going techno? I love to see thier PDA’s This is a great idea and some wonderful challenges, I can’t wait to see some output from this. I intend to participate as well, thou my Muse lately has been stubborn and refuses to talk on anything but her big brass drum.
