mac or windows

Where Zbrush is more stable and working better? Do somebody have an experience on both platforms?

Would modern quad core i7 macbook pro laptop provide enough calculating power to work with zbrush comfortably? (being connected to a big monitor and bamboo tablet)

zbrush runs fine on either OS.

On my end it’s not quite fine on two windows 7 and 8 desktops I had recent years. I can say a half of a time I spend in Zbrush I am looking on a gray “not responding” Zbrush window. It works more or less ok only couple months after I reinstall fresh new Windows, then it’s starting to go “gray” with non stop 100% disk usage ( memory is set to 4096)

Didn’t feel comfortable in Zbrush since winXP and version 2.

Curious if I can expect it somehow differently on mac?

What are your specs now? (OS, RAM, etc)
How many subtools/ polys are you trying to push(work with)?
There is a limit to about all things, but not my imagination

currently I use Win8 (original not .1 one) i7 3770k 8gb ram GF 6700GT 2gb
my subtools are around 3-5 mil each and sometimes i have around 10-15 of them .

ps. In November my pc went not responding during projection in Zbrush, I reboot and my SSD turned into a brick. Bought a fresh new old fashioned HDD , worked fine few months and now it’s all over again. Disk is ok but I constantly see gray screen in Zbrush.

Zbrush is only soft that goes “not responding” so profoundly I can’t even open task manager to stop its process.

My 2.5 cents…You have a faster machine than I do. Re-evaluate your workflow to work with what the tools(computer + SW) can handle; some technique adjustments may be necessary. Only one subtool can be modified at a time, hide what you aren’t working on. Highest subdivision level is not necessary at all times, drop to lower levels.

I thought about it and try to work as you suggested actually. But still I am starting to see a lot of troubles beyond few months of fresh Windows and Zbrush installation. Mostly in Zbrush. Photoshop works just fine for example. Perhaps it’s just because Photoshop doesn’t stress pc so much.

Since Zbrush is an important part of my work flow I wonder if converting to Mac would give me something ? I am not especially eager to fork out a copule of grand.

Is it a good idea at all to get quad-core laptop for zbrushing ? I only had a pc laptop 10 years ago and had to put it into a fridge for rendering that time.

I feel your pain. You should have tried to use trueSpace on Win 98 with a 300 MHz CPU and 64 MB of RAM
Patience is a virtue. Give it the time to do the whole classes calculus problems for the year
On a side(?) note. I had dead ZBrush here and ‘was forced’ to call tech support, they were surprised I got 3 years out of my Windows installation. I had to reinstall Windows and ZBrush and lots of other stuff. :frowning:

3 years. I had that much only once probably with XP. At w98 times I was a poor student and had my first pc mboard laying on a table with a metal cap of ice on Cyrix processor because a case + fans seem too much extra. So I didn’t wonder

Curious how often Mac Zbrush users have to reinstall on their Macs?
