Losing quality of Polygroups

At highest resolution I paint masks which I then convert to Polygroups. I go to lower subdiv and then come back up and my Polygroups are jacked up and pixelated. WHY? Masks and Polypaint can go up/down subdivs without getting messed up, why not polygroups? So what’s the workaround? I really need polygroups in my workflow but I’m perplexed why you can’t go up/down in subdivs with them.

Polygroups are defined at the base subdivision level. Not sure why it has to be that way, it could be a memory saving decision. But in order to get predictable results you should apply polygroups at subdivision level 1.

If you have UVs assigned you can use masking and then create an alpha (Tool > Masking > Create Alpha). When you want your selection back again you select the relevant alpha, apply it as masking (Tool > Masking > Mask by Alpha) and press Tool > Visibility > Hide Pt (Hide Unmasked).

As far as I remember there was a ZPlugin that helped with setting the visibility using alphas/masks. Think it was Svengali who wrote the zplugin.

Hope that helps.

Can confirm it is still the same way in ZB4 unfortunately. Will try to do as you mention TVeyes. Thanks!
