losing license randomly , having to re-activate

Hey,

Since 4r2b’s release i’ve had it happen 3 times that I launch Zbrush and it’s asking me for activation again. Definitely not all the time, but when it does I don’t know why, my hardware hasn’t changed or anything.

I go through the web activation and it says i already activated and proposes to give me a copy of my key, and sure enough that works. So it’s not a major problem , but still a bit annoying and strange.

it’s a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit , 6 gb ram , i7 960.

Out of curiosity, did you do the update to 4R2b or was it an original installation?

If you updated, submit a Support ticket and ask for a new download to be sent to you. That will be for the full 4R2b installer. Uninstall 4R2 and delete its folder, then install with the new download. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

It wAs the upgrade, i’ll check with the full installer. I also still have an old z3 indtalled beside it but that one is deactivated (was during the time smooth brush changed and ppl liked old smooth better)

Hi all,

I just had the same issue as Namek for the first time and it left me quite surprised about what is going on. I have upgraded from Z4R2 to Z4R2b just like Namek, and if it happened to him 3 times, I guess I can expect to have that as well. Should I submit for a support ticket as well then?

I know this isn’t related to the original topic, but when you add brushes to ui that aren’t in the default startup folder, but in the additional brush folder, are you meant to loose them from gui on next launch without having them in the startup folder?

PC specs: windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, 24 gb ram, i7 960, quadro fx3800

To be on the safe side I would recommend a full reinstall with the complete installer rather than the updater. You’ll need a Support ticket to get a download link for that.

For the second item: The only place to put something where it will always be available at launch is in the ZStartup folders. However, no more than 25 of any item type should be there. The items that are in the various ZFolders will instead be available through LightBox and are able to be very quickly loaded whenever you need them.

Just had this happen to me too today, but in my case it will not accept the license code (which I had saved to a text file along with the installer for ZBR42b. I tried going through the web activation process again but since I already have ZB installed and activated on a second PC here it says I’ve used up all my activations… pretty worrying bug to be honest as right now it’s disabled my copy on my work machine. How can I get it working again?

Cheers,
Brian

If you get the message that you’re out of activations, there’s also a button on that page to view activation history. That allows you to check off the lost activation and submit the form, creating a Support ticket for us with the info we need to be able to remove the lost activation from your serial number. During normal business hours, turn-around time is usually within an hour.

Activation codes should never be saved as they are single-use. Any time you need to activate ZBrush you need to use Web Activation again. Normally, the system should see your computer as being the same and not count the new activation again. The fact that it’s not doing that indicates something has changed about the computer – perhaps the clock is now set to the wrong date? Did you make a change to your computer such as new hardware or a system restore?

Thanks, support were able to get me back up and running yesterday by sending me a full installer (as opposed to the updater I originally used) and resetting my activation so I was able to do it again. I did in fact have an issue with that PC recently and did a system restore, so maybe that was what triggered it. Strange that it didn’t happen right away though, it was working fine earlier in the day and only when I closed it and then sent a mesh from Maya via GoZ did the issue occur. In any case it’s all working fine now.

Thanks again,
Cheers,
Brian

I just had the same damned thing happen. KILLING ME!!!
Sunday night before I need to send pics…ARGHH!!!

Same thing happened to me already 3 times today after the updating of R3
It may happens or not quite randomly

I run also windows 7 64 bits…may be a common point with other guys above

I have the same problem, also with 64bit wn 7… i am not happy at all as this wastes so much time. I would like to return my license…

Anyone having this problem, PLEASE do what I asked for in the first post: Submit a support ticket at https://support.pixologic.com to request that a full installer link be sent to you.

Doing a full install of the current version rather than doing an update from an earlier version should resolve this issue. But you need to contact Support to get that download!

If you are using an original install rather than an updated install and you’re having this issue, we still need you to submit a Support ticket to provide your system information and ZBrush version number so that we can try to find the cause of the problem and get it resolved for you.

ZBC is NOT going to be able to help with this particular problem. Please, please submit a Support ticket.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, Aurick.
Just created a ticket.

I just did the 4R2b to 4R3 upgrade, activated it, it crashed while I was messing with fibers on a tool I created, and then go back into it and it asks me to activate again. Please assist.

Meanwhile, I recommend a less intrusive upgrade process. Although the instructions are clear enough, it seems rather wonky to have to deactivate your license and reactivate it on the same computer for the upgrade.

We have this happening across our lab of computers. Should we create a ticket for every installation (36) or just for the college. At first we had the lab tech’s checking that students weren’t deactivating but it seems to be a bug.

Should we even bother with the Upgrade to R3 ? Or should we wait until you figure out why it is deactivating sporadically.

J

One ticket will be fine. Thanks.

Not happy because my activation hocus pocus is solved but jes knowing that others are experiencing the same problem is an awesome relief.
( misery loves company )
I was not really familiar enough with ZBC and at first glance it appeared that no one else was reporting the same behavior.

I originally activated after a slight hiccup 2 days ago thinking I needed to install version 4R2b to be able to install 4R3 today.
But when I fired up 4R2b this morning to deactivate it. Zbrush was acting like it was never activated.

Till now all Zbrush activations have always been very straight forward.
I definitely was not expecting my activation to dissapear.

I finally got 4R2b to activate again. To be sure…
I once again did a little sculpting with standard and fiber mesh.
Satisfied, I deactivated thinking 4R2b would update and activate fine now. But everytime I entered the activation code I got a message proclaiming that “activation was successful!” Hurray! right?
But after 3 to 7 seconds the activation prompt window, would start the process all over again!
Frustrating agony, much misery and gnashing of the teeth.
And then I got the message telling me I had no more activations. ( HUH?! I never presumed that failed activations would be registered as seperate activations! )
But every time I would fill the web form out…
If the description I gave differed at all, then another computer was added till the limit message exception was thrown.
Seems to me, that as much could be easily avoided if the webform used a dropdown menu list whose number of fields matched the same number of systems allowed.
( Instead of a single field without any reference to what may already exist )
Thankfully, The documents easily led me to the ticket system.

I am wondering if at one point if I did not use the right click “open as administrator” method to openup Zbrush for activation…
If that might somehow corrupt future attempts at activation even if following up with the right contextual choice?

At this point I can not recall if that was the case in my first attempt?

I just got the same thing to happen again (needs activation), after upgrading to 4R3 and doing this last night. I’m sorry, Pixologic, but if a paying customer has to waste time reactivating your product over and over again and dealing with these issues, it may be time to get a different activation system? My experience with Cleverbridge has been like this before with other products. It’s aweful. I hope this helps.

Are you all Windows 7 users? I don’t see Mac users if I’m not wrong.

One thing you can try is to select the ZBrush 4R3 folder in your Program files(x86)\Pixologic folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic), then do a right click on it and select properties.

When the window open, Select the security tab (it should be the 3rd one), then click on the Modify button (just below the Group/ users names.
Then check if the user “Everyone” exists, then select it and check that it has the full authorizations. If not, check everything, then click OK to close the window, then click OK again to close the Properties window. It may ask you to apply to all the files and subfolders, accept.

(Just a note: the names/functions names may vary from your OS language (i’m on a french OS). Everyone user in french is “Tout le monde” and if you enter Everyone, Windows won’t find it…)

And as Aurick said, try to do a full reinstall or open a ticket at the support center.

Yes, I am a windows 7 64 bit user.
I only hae the upgrade file for zb4r3 but i only purchased a license to zbr4r2 a few days ago.
I would think that I could get a download to the new installer easily.
Oh well.
But my folder always is the same r2 name and so is the .exe?
Ayway i completely uninstalled, deleted the zbrush folder, reinstalled and have just reactivated r2 and dreading updating…

but i anxiously BET r2 is gonna lose its license again sometime soon.
