Loosing Cntrl-z undo hotkey on obj import

I’ve never read about this before… when I import a obj from lightwave, I loose the hotkey shortcut to undo. I can stiil use the dropdown undo button and the undo timeline, but I’m used to always doing quick undos with the hotkey shortcut.

Any idea what could cause this, and how to correct the issue?

That’s odd, I’ve not heard of that before. You can re-assign the Undo/Redo hotkeys by following the instructions at the bottom of this page:

http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/keyboard-shortcuts/defaulthotkeys-file/

Whats odd is if I reinitialize, it restores it, and loading other obj files is fine and does not affect it.

I just had it happen again today with another imported model. Is there any way to reassign the hotkey while the program is open? Mabe save the hot key config and manually reload it?

EDIT: Adding the undo/redo to the hotkey file per the instructions at that link and manually reloading it restores it back to normal behaviour.

I’m really puzzled as to why importing certain OBJs stops the hotkey working. Anyway, if reloading the default hotkey file solves the problem then that is something. You could have a macro do that for you, which would then be a single button press.

I wonder if using the import button I copied from the drop down menu onto the palette instead of the right side one is making that difference? NOW I’ll have to relearn doing macros again though…LOL! I’ve been away from zbrush for a few years, and I’m trying to get back up to snuff with it again and learn using it for 3d printing as well.

Just not enough hours in the day…

EDIT: Yep, that was it! Copying the import button from the top menu and using that instead caused the issue. importing the same object from the right palette did NOT cause the issue! Maybe you can document that for a bug report?

Thanks, yes I’ll report it but it would be useful if you could share an OBJ that causes the problem and I’m not clear which Import button causes the problem. Could you post a screenshot?

Here’s the obj link: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:671647

I imported the whole world version in the download at that link.

I created a new new doc and also a new import button above the main viewport so I could access them quicker if the right palette was scrolled up. I’m using a surface 4 pro, and am using the stylus so this decreases at least some of the arm motions.

Many thanks, though those files are STL not OBJ!

I just imported them into lightwave, and then saved them or as obj files. I can drop one into drop box and give you a link if you like?

That would be great. I don’t have Lightwave.
