Looking to display Subtool name over the canvas/viewport

Heya guys, I know subtools are often obvious (this is an arm, a helmet) and the dimming of inactive subtools is great, but sometimes I really just want to know the name of the current subtool without scrolling up to the palette. It’s briefly displayed under the menu when you switch, but then it’s gone. I’d love a label at the bottom of the canvas displaying the name of the current subtool. Has anyone scripted anything like that?

Thanks for any help! I only really discovered ZScript yesterday because i was a bit lost on how to achieve an isometric viewpoint (3/4 top left kind of thing), but having a programming background all this has me really excited.

I think you’ll find zscript a bit limited if you’re from a programming background. You can’t do things like constantly monitor the UI and then react to changes. A fairly big drawback is that only one zscript/plugin/macro can be active at a time. So if your plugin is loaded and the user presses a different plugin’s button your plugin will cease to run.

However, quite a bit can be done to get around the limitations, if you’re prepared to compromise. :slight_smile:

This code, put inside a button that you could assign a hotkey to, will show the current subtool’s name, displayed in a Note for one second:

[Note,[IGetTitle, Tool:Current Tool],1]

Thanks Marcus, much appreciated! Will report back. I think something like the tool info that appears when you hover over the current tool (but just showing subtool details) would be neat.
