I need to know the ways of the force, but I’m humbled by the talent on display. I’ve worked off and on with ZBrush for several years, but I’ve never truly achieved greatness. I’m getting old here working by myself. I was wondering if their are any kind souls out there that might take pity on an old fool? If so, I would like to Skype with individuals that have a bit of free time. I’d be will to trade whatever skills I possess in exchange.

I’m currently in Korea as an English instructor. If there are any Koreans reading this post, please consider the offer. I can trade language lessons for your time. It’s a good value considering my hourly for private lessons.:frowning:

I would recommend posting more of your work on here for critique! It’s free and you can get lessons from more than one person.

What can I say. I’m desperate to get better, quicker. Teaching myself this stuff is a smashing failure so far.

imo its not exactly software skills you need help with.

Try modeling in clay a maquette of what you are going for, do lots of drawing then try to replicate it in zbrush.

I hate to say it but if you can’t learn enough from the online docs regarding software (zbrush) then maybe its not for you.

Don’t get me wrong zbrush is an interface which anyone can learn, the awesome stuff you see is 99% artistic skill.

i woulld encourage you to learn some traditional skills then apply it to your digital work.

I actually do have to work on my traditional 2D drawing skills. Other than the degree, I feel like my New Media degree was worthless. I wish I could go back to school for more training. Oh well.

I also have to wait for my Wacom to come back for a RMA repair. I’ve been sculpting the above model with a mouse.

If you don’t mind my asking, where did you get your degree?

I got my degree from Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis. It’s a BS in New Media Arts and Science. It’s a 50/50 situation. The degree was developing when I graduated in 2003, and I was incredibly lazy. Now that I have more ambition, I regret the choices that I made.

For the last few years I was working as a web designer for a supplements company. The job was so comfortable I stayed lazy. In the last 18 months, I’ve gotten the fire back in my belly.

Unfortunately for me, it appears that I’m not a good self-teacher. Since I’ve already have one degree there won’t be any federal grants to continue my education. My only real hope is to either continue towards a masters, find an internship, or find a mentor.
