Looking for a mentor.

Greetings Honorable Masses,

I am hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction. I would like to start my own video game company, but I need to learn the development pipeline. Not just the theoretical sides of it but the actual process of how to take the reference material I have and develop that into a virtual world.

I have a degree in business management and I have been pursuing degrees in Computer Science and Digital Arts from the U of O. So while I am not the high caliber artist as most of the Zbrushers out there are, I know how to use the program as well as anyone. I know how to use Maya and Houdini reasonably well as I do the game engine. I have developed the storyline, game mechanics, and philosophy. I have a simple business plan in place, including budgeting and gathering start up capitol.

I have all these little pieces, but I need some guidance on how to assemble them. I would ideally like to make contact with a mentor who could help me through this process, but if anyone can suggest a good book or training program I would highly appreciate it!

Sincerely,

Christopher

Post Script: I have looked into the 3DTA and Gnomon and both failed to be compatible for various reasons.

For a book, try ‘The Game Producer’s Handbook’ (http://www.amazon.com/Game-Producers-Handbook-Dan-Irish/dp/1592006175). Amazon shows a good list of other relevant books. This book is reviewed by Gamasutra http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20050516/kane_01.shtml

A better place for answers might be somewhere like the community at http://www.blitzbasic.com where a lot of indie developers contribute.

(P.S. thanks for changing the text colour, but the default colour is by far the easiest on the eyes - don’t know why folk feel the need to change it)

Greetings, and thanks for the reply. But that book is a little dated and isn’t quite what I was looking for. I have already gone through Amazon and nothing stood out to me as being the one. As for the color of my font, I did not change it during the first post. It just came out black on its own. I swear. I will check out the other formums. Thanks for the direction.

Chris
