I just posted this at a new little ZB forum and felt cheeky for not putting it here.
I feel old tonight.
and I feel like a long time ZBrusher. In fact, I’ve been using it for over a decade now. I started in 1999 in version .95 I think. Back then no-one wanted anything to do with high polygon meshes and you couldn’t really get anything useful back out of ZBrush: at least, you couldn’t do much with it. Look at the difference a decade makes. I’ve met some of the awesome Pixo guys in and met some outstanding artists along the way. I had a little relationship with Mudbox a few years back but it never lit my fire I’m afraid to say. I find the ZBrush interface very easy to navigate and always have. Not everyone agrees with me on that point but ZBrush is not just another piece of software. It’s an artists tool made by an amazing artist and it’s development path is unique.
Here’s an article from a magazine called EFX. This was a 10th Anniversary edition and was released in 2001. Take a look at what Pixologic (Ofer Alon) were saying back then and see how much of it has come true.
Keep in mind that in 2001 we had Corel Painter 6, Electric Image universe, Kai Krause was waving his power tool around and Bryce 4 was huge. Pixels 3D was still around, Painter was in V 6.03, Lightwave was in V6, there was no Maya Mac version yet and Autodesk didn’t own everything else.
ahhh…the memories…
