u thought of texturing it and rendering it out?
just a question…the hair and beard including the brows were seperate meshes right?
and u sculpted them seperately…is this an easy process?
thanks in advance

very nice sculpt!..
Sculpting the hair, beard and eye brows separately was fairly straight forward. Because they were individual pieces I could subdivide them alot more then if they were part of the head.
Getting them to look like they were part of the head and not a separate subtool was quite hard however. It still doesn’t look very good in places. I need to do some more research into better ways of smoothing/blending subtools.
I’d love to texture and render him, however, I’m not sure what the sculpted style hair will look like with texture. Looking back on the process of sculpting the hair, think it would of been quicker and more productive to use a fur shader in an external program to create more detailed, finer, realistic hair.
mdale13 the “Bloody Nine” is his nick name in the book. He is missing a finger and tends to go a bit berserk when attacked, hence the name Bloody Nine.
fiercepanda you seem to know who I am. Did we work together at my last job? lol
Thanks once again to everyone else for your really nice comments. I’d list everyone’s name, but I’m afraid I’ll forget someone, and make them feel bad…

Awesome work!!!.. I would suggest you to add the hair and beard to the main subtool using “insert geo” so that you can make them merge them seamlessly.
huuhhh, can u believe i read all the comments before posting mine…
its ur first post on ZBC but offcourse its not ur first sculpt at all.
no matter what u had in ur mind and what u tried to do and what was the name of the book or what the"cheek mystry" is. it looks cool.
and what i call a “punch” in every peice of art, is, in this case, the way u captured the moment. i liked the form of hair his turning head/bust, fatigue on his face, aggression of the situation combined to his own character. it needs a keeeeen eye to pick all these things from a reference or from ur imagination and a masterful hand to transfer the immeasurable currents of neurons in our brains to an external material through our 5 fingers…
wish u the best for further work on it.
First off you are insane with the rings (I say that in a good way). Fantastic attention to detail and despite the hair, overall the bust gives off a great feel to the character. I wish you could drop a render with maybe a marble or bronze metcap…Welcome to the forums, keep up the great work.
Great detail!!!
Amazing and very expressive! Makes me want to read this book…
Did you use a lot of references for the hair or just wing it?
great work 5*
great model and good expression. The geometrical details are excellent too.
Great work dude. First time I understand how to make chainmail
I thought there is any direct or any simple way to make the chainmail.
And can you tell me how to make the febric with equal detail and good effect…
Interesting work, i really like the overall facial expression and hair, about the cheeks, i don’t believe there’s anything wrong with them as well, the cheekbones seem to be correctly placed keeping in mind the battle weary look, besides a bit of asymmetry can’t hurt, just makes it look that much more interesting, otherwise nice execution, keep it up man .
I do apologize for being so slack with my replies. My new character has been distracting me somewhat… any who… we all know the fickle and absent mindedness of most artists hehe…
Sorry if I forget to respond to your posts… but I’ll try to respond to the latest ones… I’ve lost track of which comments I have responded to in the past! lol
S9 Cheers for the Comments… To be honest, I still look at the cheek bones almost everyday. It’s still baffles me, they don’t look that bad, but I completely understand when people say something is a little a miss.
digital_3d I always follow the K.i.s.s approach to complicated tasks… ( Keep . it . simple . stupid ) hehe. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with complicated procedures. The cloth was subdivided with the HD geometry to add the extra detail.
Remib, scorpio3d, Ramza27, dcbittorf, d100763, taemee, anandpg, thank you very much! your all way too nice!
Ramza27, I highly recommend the series! One of the best reads I had last year. I spent a fair amount of time looking for reference for the hair. However I wasn’t able to find many pictures showing messed up longish hair. So I ended up winging most of it.
d100763 I’ll have to get that bronze render too you soon!
taemee wow… nice, elegant reply!
anandpg wouldn’t merging the hair and beard with insert increase the base meshes poly count? The head was already as high as my computer would allow, hence the need for separating everything up into smaller subtools. I’m still a little new to ZB, so I’d love to hear some tips for dealing with Low amounts of memory.
Thanks everyone once again!

wow, this is a great piece, there are very nice details in it. It will be great when it finishes.
Guys catch an axe or a sword on the cheek and see if your cheeks look the same.
Excellent work.
Organic symetry is way over rated and looks fake.
Whoa! when did this happen? Just stubbled upon this yesterday in my random internet searching.

Doesn’t really look too much like Logen to me.
The face isn’t no where near scarred enough. The book says his face is a cross lattice of scars
His nose isn’t mishapen enough. His nose has been broken dozens of times and needs to be a bit more mangled
No where can i remember it saying he has a full beard, but neither do i remember him shaving
The hair isn’t long and scraggy enough, it needs to a bit more wild
And i agree the chainmail is very pretty. But seriously? Logen Ninefingers and chainmail just don’t mix. Leather and furs
wow… did you actually go to the trouble of creating a new account (leaving out any details of yourself) so you could troll in a thread that’s 3 months old? I’m stunned.
From what I remember in history, the Norse/vikings/barbarians all generally wore chain mail over their skins and padded armour, but hey, each to his own.
Any how, we at the zbrush community will be eagerly looking forward to your your interpretation of Logan ( with an “a”)
Well thanks for bumping such an old thread!

If you don’t want people to comment on your work then why put it on a forum?
I’m not an artist so I’m not going to attempt to do 1 myself.
Not being an artist myself however, doesn’t stop me from having an opinion and expressing them on a public forum.
If you’re basing your work on a character from 1 of my favourite series of books, and in fact using the name of the main character you might want to have a better idea of what he looks like. No-where does it mention Logen (with an “e” as in the book) wearing a chain mail shirt.
As i’ve already said, if you don’t want people to comment i suggest you keep your work off a forum for all to see
its too bad people like you come on here and bring the community down
