LINK FIXED-Hologram monitors Debuit October 25th

Pixologic, please get this SDK!!!
http://www.physorg.com/news1493.html

I never thought I would ever see anything like this in my life time.

Holograms are not just for Fictional television anymore!!!

The SDK is all ready available for download,

This is going to change the way we all do 3d!!!

Plus if they turn into full time television sets, us CG artists will have alot of new employment oppertunitys. (the ones that know how to spell will have even greater oppertunitys, LOL! I need a new spell checker)

One of th coolest features is that Nvidia is makeing it!!! They are REALLY COOL to the linux comunity!!! I am hopeing they are planning on a *nix compatible drivers.

Your link isn’t working. When I click on it, I get the “Post a New Thread” screen.

I tried doing a search on it, but couldn’t come up with anything. I’m really curious about it.

Thank you Winged one!

Sorry for the bogus link… Glad someone was paying attension

I got the date wrong also, it is the 25’th not the 26’th…

I might buy a plane tickett, I really want to see this in person

“They” say it is going to debuite at $5000 and then after mass production it may drop to aroun 1500$ …

I will probably own one when it gets down to about 2500$

Thanks again Winged One :):+1:

Interesting trchnology, but to me it seems a bit impracticle for cg work. Imagine how tired your arms are going to be after manipulating objects in true 3d space for a hour. I can definitly see how this could be amazing for entertaiment though! I guess it is a matter of time to know how well this is being implemented.

YEa , without the feedback from actualy touching something might make it hard to do…

I am thinking it would make it easyer for a Ceramic sculptor to be able to use Zbrush or other products… then I started remembering how much I relied on touch and pressure to get my shapes…

I still think it has great potential … perhaps have 2 monitors to create your objects in conventional ways, and use the “3dsolar” system to preview the model…

Would be nice for people to check things out before they rapid prototype something… would help make sales

I am sure there will be alot of uses for it  I am excited to see that this turns into.

…curious
Alas in the Official site there is no movie video of the result
Maybe it’s not possible to film an hologramm ?
Pilou

“3Dsolar is light years beyond holography and autostereoscopy in that designers can create images that are highly detailed in color, design and animation,” said Patrick Levy Rosenthal, inventor of 3Dsolar."

The above taken from the news link. This is saying its different from holograms unless I’m reading it wrong. Either way it looks like this technology may finally be arriving. I remember seeing in the news about 8+ years ago a huge box looking thing in the middle of the floor with huge fanblades spining and lights hitting it to create a “3d” image. I’m glad it seems to be taking a turn for the better. Just thinking about all this can be used for is mind-boggling.

Thnx for the link…very kewl minds at work…remote 3d space exploration of planets, moons and asteroids or medical 3d…projecting the inner workings of the brain and other organs using cams and this technology…virtually walking thru an enlarged projected body …it is mind boggling…not to mention this is the first “Holodeck” type technology that I am aware of that remotely ressembles what we have seen on Star Trek…How way way kewl it would be to use zbrush and this technology…I hope Wacom buys into this technology coz it would almost make them obsolete…thnx again Pol.
Ron

Hollow deck would be totaly COOL!!!

Now the only thing I am looking forward to in the furure is from an old Woody Allen movie called Sleeper… I want an “Orgasmitron!” That ORB thing looked pretty cool too

Its ben Years science I seen that movie… I think I am going to buy it over Amazon.
