Lightbox- Preview Thumbnail Question

Hello and good evening,

How can one change the little preview thumbnail for a ztool or zproject file in lightbox? I was looking to organize the way my files appear in lightbox, so I can figure out which file is which by image not just by name.

Thank you for your time :smile:

Hi @JefDeChef

ZBrush takes a snapshot of the top subtool in the subtool palette and uses that for the thumbnail. Whether you save the project or the tool, it’s the same thing. So, make what you want displayed and put it at the top of the Subtool palette or if you want a particular subtool on the thumbnail, put it at the top.

Oh thank you thank you for answering @zber2 ! :smiley:

Ah so that’s how it works. Although for some reason, some of the default projects like the drone shows the whole model instead of just the top most subtool. When loading that drone project, the active subtool after load up is a lens that’s towards the bottom out of the whole list.

Any ideas? :thinking:

@JefDeChef

Keep in mind that ZBrush has a mind of it’s own sometimes. Maybe the number of subtools has something to do with it. I’m not sure. Anyway, regarding the drone model, if you turn the visibility off for all the subtools (holding Shift key and clicking eye icon on subtool), then select any subtool, it will use that for the thumbnail. Although I could never figure out how the camera works when it takes the snapshot. In most cases it will use the top subtool.

Duly noted thanks Zber :slight_smile:

@JefDeChef

This is what I think the creator of the Drone model did. I tried this myself and got the same result. You will notice in your screenshot of the drone above that the grid is visible. Just select “Z” (only) on the “Floor” button if you are in Front view and enable it. Doing this will show the whole model (every subtool) in the thumbnail in Lightbox, no matter which subtool is selected when the Project was saved. When you open the Drone project file, the lens is selected and shows as the Tool because that is what he had selected when he saved the file.

Awesome, you figured it out!!! I’ll try it out when I can. Thanks again @zber2 for taking the time to go through this it’s most appreciated. How did you figure enabling the floor would work that way? A guess :thinking:?

So I tried it out Zber, and it works just as you said! :smile: Better yet it does so for any camera angle as long as floor is enabled (any axis) at save time. However, I noticed it seems to work only on .ZPR files and not ZTL. In other words, for ZPR files it captures all subtools and not for ZTL files, which only captures the active subtool.

Yes, with the Ztool, it takes a snapshot of the top subtool only. There’s no way around that that I know of. You would have to contact Support to see if they have a way. I’m on version 2022.0.8 so maybe they did something on the latest version.
