let's play the creativity!!

Hello friends.
I would like, if you me allow it to begin here a small debate allowing to justify the creative hearts.
often on the forum, we observe “scenes” of exasperation on behalf of some of enter us.
the subject scour is:
the bar of previsualisation which ravels too much quickly.
I understand the frustration generated by one and the other of the parts, namely,
those which, older, make a long-term job and which would like to share their concretization gained so hard during one, to see several, keen night of work.

and those, for which Zbrush is marvellous tools which quickly makes it possible to carry out that of which they were not believed able.

I recall, a long ago of that, when I published my firsts balls coloured on a ground in checkerwork, which happiness was for me to show with pride that of which I was able.
And roof of the beauty, my first reflections on spheres!! my god!! imposing!! call the journalists!!

I, with each was made able poster!!! (and we were far, to this time of connected fast!!! and one render of 320x240 lasted 17 hours with the reflections…).

all that for saying:

remember guys of the enthusiasm of which you made proof at your beginning thus and leave these new talents to express yourselves, while evolving/moving it will improve their creations and more times will devote to it, like you today.

and, this will be held often, because again talents will still arrive always and,
then also let us not forget that the forum of yesterday is not that of today, yesterday there were 1000 members… today 8000, and tomorrow…

then let us change the practices rather… and rather than to restrict itself with reading the post highest or appearing in preview, thus made like to much here, read the old men posts.

In a friendly way Fouad B. :+1:

hope the translation is not bad.

Fouad, turning 57 in the very near future I am tempted to “vote” for this line near the end of your post  - but something tells me, that you meant things quite different!?

Sharing your fate of being no native speaker  (and NOT using google) - when I look at the whole post: yes, some of us should be more patient, some of us should stop making fun of EVERY bit.
But: the call for patience goes in ALL directions, and even the member with his first post should carry enough humor to get along with some mild form of nonsense!?

If I got this all wrong: just have mercy with an old man  !

Yes I vote for the same system on the second Menu !
A slider for “The last week for example” should be great !
I ask this many time, but Pixo don’t answer :frowning:
Maybe this time, if some people want the same

Fouad, I am not sure that I understand all of what you are saying but I agree with you that the forum of last year is not the forum of today. And I expect all of us must adjust our expectations of what we can expect on the forum both in viewing others posts and in what we receive in feedback regarding our posts. I am not sure where I fit in on those issues. I loved the old forum and admit I am having some trouble adjusting to the volume of posts now. I don’t know how Frenchy keeps up with everything???
And I agree with Frenchy that a slider bar for the “regular” posts (that is the posts that we ordinary people make) would be really nice.
But then I am just an “old” woman, and who am I to say what should or should not be???

In reading the names,I gather that I am the new kid on the block here too.
(note to Z :I am 58 years old,so you are puberty.)
I approach this forum like a new kid does on the first day of school.
Excited, but nervous that I will do something wrong.I am also new to things such as this internet forum. Until last week I thought lol was a vacation spot.
But the fact remains I am here, and as our host of this thread has pointed out it ain’t like it used to be.( I went back and checked)
I cannot speak for all new people only myself.
With a group like this, we want to fit in, to learn ,to be a part of this experience.
People with not a lot in common, but with one purpose: to do well in this program.
I bring with me a certain sense of humor,my own values,my own reasons for wanting to do well in this place.
You and others like you(the older kids)are the first ones here and have set the tone and the mood for what follows in the future
I can’t think of anything I would change here if it means losing what I have found.
So, I would like to ask you well seasoned zbrush veterans to forgive the trespasses of the new guys and to grant them the patience and understanding and guidance which makes this forum what it is.
You are the forum!!!
I am not going to read this back before I send it,if I do, I won’t.

With the increased rate of posting it might be time to add more categories of forum (e.g. a WIP forum) so that ZBC will be better organised as a whole.

Maybe it is also time to take on another active moderator - Aurick’s workload must have increased greatly, especially if he is updating the ZBrush manual.

And maybe Pixologic already has ideas such as these to implement when The Next Version comes out.

I do know that things would be at least slightly better if people respected the forums that are already in place - a great deal of what is posted in the main forum should really be put in the Feedback/Troubleshooting forum.

Hi Northstarr
Yes, I am a little crazzy, I have read the quasi all posts from the beginning of this forum.
(like a sort of drug or addiction)

It’s very difficult for me because it’s not my primary language and that I am not very good in this exercice
But I don’t sleep very much and have some free times this last year.
I don’t think that the forum has changed.
Just the numbers of members.
I believe that 10 000 members will be the frontiere!
For everybody and everything!
It’s a problem of “entropy”
Quantity of informations or materials can’t be to grow infinite without transformation

After no possibility to follow all threads
And no time
And sure I passe more time to read/ write than Zbrushing
But this programm is so crazzy than you have the passion to communicate this craze
So have happy Zbrushing!
Pilou
Ps And of course surfing on the Web is another addict thing, so I can take some links sometimes

To follow up on Bonecradles’s suggestions.
A separate room or category for amateur or beginner would be one splinter group.
I can see what you mean about adhering to the topic subject of the room, but look at it from a beginners point of view.
There is a faq room whose last post was in August.
The natural inclination is to go straight for the forum.
One thing I believe you are all saying if I may echo,is that the really good work and “expert” type questions are being buried under an avalanche of amateur questions and work.
Right now in the Forum there is work from an artist in Japan that got only minimum recognition before it was buried under a bunch of posts( some feeble attempts of mine were included in this group)
I do believe there is a certain time and certain place for posts that shall we say are of a jocular nature.
I also have to stifle myself when someone takes it a bit too seriously.
Once the numbers start really mounting, there no doubt will be questions about the color coordinating outfits on the aliens

I wouldn’t personally like to see forums divided on beginnerness or subjective quality - I just can’t see how it would work.

I also don’t really care what or how often people post but I would like to be able to filter it somehow. As a good amount of pictures aren’t finished works, I think separate WIP and completed image sections could be handy.

My only other point was that there are now a lot of posts in the main forum asking technical questions or dealing with problems. These should really be in the Feedback/Troubleshooting forum, which does get a reasonable amount of traffic.

Sorry, no jocularity here right now. It is mid-afternoon and it is all I can do to keep my eyes open, let alone rouse some wit

i fully understand this.iam a beginner and to be true i posted to many wips, but i will keep this thread in my mind and i try to post only the final images from now.for me is this place the best forum,i said this before and i will say this many more times, cause this is true,if you want help there is help and many more things what makes this forum what it is.it is the best for learnig from the pros.i asked often for help somewhere else and believe me there was not one able to help a little beginner like me.im working now for 200 years as a merchant in a very big company here in germany and have nothing to do with 3d normally,i started with 3d on january this year(cause of an idea i have in my crazy brain)and i was often searching for a little help and after i found zbrush and this great forum i really was glad to found something i really like.this is the place i feel welcome, and somehow accepted.

Dominik

PS:Bonecraddle youre right.

@havran: well, the first “splitting” you’ve mentioned >> seems to me that THIS is what we’ve got allready?

And, to divide it (the froum) any further by using some of them “classes” you’ve mentioned: you might need another pair of auricks  just to make sure, that ppl put their threads/posts where there “belong”!?
I mean: the easy question of an advanced user will surely be to much for a novice, so if that seasoned user will put her/his post into the “easy” drawer…!!

IF there should be a change AT ALL, it should be more likely in not loosing “grip” in spite of some 100+ members!?

Well, this IS an interesting thread you guys have going here, so as an ‘old guy’ on the forum, I wanted to contribute. (I’m 56 for the curious, and my membership number indicates I’ve been here awhile… )

Fouad brought back memories for me as well, with his reference to the ‘shiny ball on a checkerboard’ image…I remember my first one of these too, and I also remember the enthusiasm. I think enthusiasm is good, and should be encouraged, but I also think that it is better to post one image that is the result of thought, planning, and intent, rather than what I have seen referred to as ‘doodles’…
These may be great fun for the ‘doodler’, but quite often these seem to me to be more a result of boredom than the criteria I mention in the above paragraph.

So, all I will say is that, if people want to ‘doodle’ and then post, so be it! But if they want to grow in artistic ability, as well as learn to use ANY software effectively,a good thing to do is to study Art history and theory as a beginning step. Then, think about what you are about to post, and ask if it is something you want people to see, and for what reason would they be interested in seeing it…

We all started somewhere, and we all had pride in our earliest experiments in CG, but like most, I only keep 1% of what I do on the computer, and I only post 1% of that. I don’t ask that others accept my standards of course for posting, but I would ask for a little discrimination from time to time. Not everything I do is worthy of posting…

Thank you Fouad for starting a productive discussion, and for my part, I don’t think we need to add more sections. I think we just have to resist the urge to publish the results of 20 minutes of boredom, without at least a second look at the piece in question, to decide if we think everybody will be as amused by it as we are…

[edit: sorry – apparently I’m just easily annoyed lately – will try to do better]
