Layer Recording takes 8 clicks to turn off [Answered]

this has miffed and baffled me for months and since i’m a sucker for pain, i’m only now getting around to inquiring!

why does the record button in the layers palette sometimes (if not always) take several clicks to turn it off??

process:

  1. import 3 objs
  2. append them
  3. create layer for first subtool
  4. sculpt (only deformations, no rgb or m, no masking either)
  5. try to turn off layer to toggle and view changes
-first click switches record mode off and then right back on. also, Colorize is now enabled!! O_o
-i’ve wondered if this is a result of using a brush that has rgb enabled by default and even though colorize isn’t enabled, the tool or layer somehow still takes in rgb info
  6. click record SEVEN MORE TIMES and it finally turns off
-now i’m able to toggle visibility
  7. turn back on record and start sculpting again

this behavior, or some variation of it, happens regularly. is this expected behavior? could it be happening as a result of layers storing depth, color and masking info now?

looking forward to any experience users have had w/ this and also feedback from the fine folks at Pixologic.

thanks!

ryan

.

This macro will turn off record for you. Save to your ZStartup/Macros/Misc folder then restart ZBrush or press Macro>Reload All Macros. You can assign a hotkey to the button.

Marcus,

Thanks, works great. And that was quick!

  1. Could that be altered to be a toggle - Record on/off?
  2. Is this something that will be fixed in the next release or should I get used to using the macro?
  3. Why would Colorize be enabled in the aforementioned order of operations?

Thanks again,

r

  1. This is possible but is a lot more complicated. The basic method for turning on recording is described here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?163059-Question-How-to-Put-Tool-Layers-into-Recording-Mode.

  2. I’ve no information on what the plans are for the next release.

  3. If you make yourself a ‘turn on recording’ macro you could include a line that turns off Colorize. I’ve no idea why it is switched on automatically.

HTH,
