Layer polypaint problem 4r3

Hi, I’m having an issue with layers/Material and was hoping I could get a quick answer to this question.

When I turn a layer on the the polypaint that I’ve done turns on as expected. Unfortunately when I do this the material changes as well.

When I apply a new material, it does not update the model unless I hit ‘FillObject’. In a new scene you can apply a new mat and it will update the model automatically. I’m guessing this is happening because there seems to be information on the material channel of these layers but I can’t figure out how to delete it take it off or apply a global material. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the material that is selected vs what is being show on the model. Maybe I’m completely missing something so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this is clear. Thanks for the help.

Cheers,

If you have ‘M’ or ‘MRGB’ toggled when you fill a mesh, you are storing the material on the mesh. When you are in layer recording mode, it stores this data as well. This comes in handy for painting and blending different color passes. You can hide the MRGB polypaint data by click on the paintbrush icon next to the subtool, or shift-clicking to disable it on all subtools.

Giacinti, thank you for the response. Its very helpful, but I do have one more question. Is there anyway to delete all Material information from each layer? So I can get back to the point of being able to globally change the material for all layers? As of right now, when I turn the brush icon off for the subtool it works but the second I start recording again or even toggle the visibilty, that recorded material information comes back into display. I really just want to delete that material info from these layers. Thanks again for the response.

if you want to remove material information, you have to fill the subtool with the flat material; using subtool master you can do this for all subtools at once.

As far as I know there is no way to do this once you have material information in your layers.

what i recommend:

  • not painting any material information in the layers
  • before you start using layers there should be no material information nor polypaint on the model - so it should be in a “neutral” state
