Laughing man

Hi guys,

I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and never had anything worth posting. I have been a maya user for the last 7 years and work in the commercial industry. For my commercial work check out [www.hecticelectric.nl](http://www.hecticelectric.nl/). About 2 years ago I discovered ZBrush and tried to learn but life took over and I never really got comfortable with it. Last week (after spending a week learning modo another great package) I picked it up again. And imagine my surprise, I still remembered most of the things I learned last time. But more importantly I started to understand how ZBrush works  So today I sat down and slapped some ZSpheres together and started doodling. Here's the result:

It is not finished of course and I used a shader and lighting by Antropus ([http://www.antropus.com](http://www.antropus.com/)) but I must say, this is the first time I really like what's coming out of my hands using ZBrush. I just started on the wrinkles and there is still something wrong with the ears and nose but I will post updates so you can see where I'm going with this. And, yes, it's true, ZBrush rules!!!! Gr. Maxim

Welcome to Zbrush!
Great model Maxim, i would like to see it textured now.

nice Way better then my first outcome

I think the ears are not to bad but the nose is wrong like you said maybe point it more downwards

overall great work

daan

great finishing!!
but som problems with the nose, cud make it rite:)

I think the nostrils are too large and square… just a little smoothing would kill two birds with one stone

Well I spend the day adding wrinkles and pores and it has been lots of fun. Here’s an update. As you can see I worked the nose and I like it a lot better now. Still all Zbrush allthough I did some level work in PS. On with the texturing, can’t wait!

SalmonGod: I worked those nostrils and you where right, much better (I think)

Daantjuh: Yeah I p[ointed it down a bit as well

Thanx for the replies guys.

Opinions?

M

Ah, the pores and the wrinkles. It’s much fun isn’t it. Cool model so far. I do think the middle of the ears (side view) looks a bit odd, is that a natural thing? Maybe you could post a few close-ups of it?

Furthermore a ‘hartelijk welkom’, and compliments on the professional website; it’s nice to see that your company is working on some good projects.

Have fun!

Just a quick update. I couldn’t help myself, had to start texturing. Any tips and tricks? Again, what a joy to work this way, can’t get enough.

Plakkie: Hey, thanx man  This is one of the best forums for software I’ve ever been to and everybody is very helpfull. Also I can’t believe the amount of great tutorials on this site. It really helped. You are right about the ears, something is rotten in Danmark. Damn, you caught me and now I’ll have to fix it  Next round it will be done.

Now there is no specularity yet and I’m planning on some nice teeth and eyes. but that’s why it’s called Work In Progress I guess:

Cheers, M

Hehe, yeah, no texturing before the modeling is done, we see everything!
I totally agree with the coolness of Zbrush and it’s warm forum. I never in my life expected to one day make a visual representation of something as complex as an ear (let alone a head), but after a month of toying around I made this in an hour. (see the pic, which I show at every occasion )

My theory is that underneath the innocent cover of sympathetic 2.5D-software are very complex algorithms that guide the geometry to look artfull and cool, while letting the the user believe he does it all himself. (/herself)

A smiling old man makes a welcome change to see. It already reminds me of a Jan Steen picture.
I don’t know, if you are going to change the ears, maybe you can have a look at the corners of the mouth to, to me they look like they could use a bit more flesh?

Cheers,
Plakkie
