I would like to be able to get images larger than the 8Kx6K resolution, without going outside Zbrush. How would one render in pieces and then re-assemble them in photoshop?

I wrote a plugin some time ago that will do that. It works OK with 4R7. Simply unzip the file to your Desktop and then copy the MaxResize.ZSC file to the ZBrush 4R7\Zstartup\ZPlugs64 folder. Restart ZBrush and there will be a new sub-palette in the Document palette. See the readme file included in the zip for further instructions.
