landscape software

This looks kinds cool: http://www.pandromeda.com/

And incase you have not seen it: http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/
is great and free.

Though honestly, I prefere the stuff I see here: http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001312

Transporter is kinda cool. You create an entire planet, instead of just a scene. You can even view that planet from orbit, and somehow, add other orbiting objects. With the freeware version you have little control of the planet creation. Basically modifying existing land forms, weather, fog, etc…I guess you need the big daddy to do more. Not sure yet.
And it is a HOG. It kills my little 400, and is just about passible on my 1.8g/1gig ram. It took about an hour to render at Highest rez on the 1.8.
Here is an example pic I did on my 400. It took about 2 hrs on normal rez.

That is trippy Kaz! I was in the beta program but I actually didn’t even download the program as I had too many pots in the fire. But it is a cool idea, everyone creates thier own worlds and you can go visit them in 3D somehow, not sure how it works

But that render looks awesome!

Yeah, I read something about the sharing thing, but not much. I will look into it more.

I love this kind of saftware. The first one I had was on the Atari ST. Can’t remember the name… Then Vistapro on the PC. That was so cool, until Bryce came out and blew everyone away. Then again, there are the higher end ones, which I have not touched. I tend to go for the free ones. Go figure…

I think Kathy has a few. If your listening…Any comments?

But I do wonder what people think of such tools. Obviously, one can’t take credit for the image. Not the quality. Perhaps it’s a bit more like being a photographer.

Makes me think of another post I was planning on making. Guess I will do that in a bit…

Kaz, when you mentioned the Atari ST, I had to come out of ‘lurk’ mode…I still have my Atari ST, and two racks of software for it! Just think…Put in a floppy, turn on a computer, and that floppy contains all that the computer is capable of doing! Ah…The old days!

Hey Stonecutter,

I am envious! My ST Died after I put 2megs ram in it. Now I use some of the emulators for fun, but I wish I could still play with Spectrum 512 and Cyber Studio. Outdated, but fun!

Did you ever see a 3d program called Rosetta 3D? I remember seeing an ad for it, but nothing after that.

And remember, you did not even Need the floppy. The OS was in ROM! Imagine how much faster Windows would be if it were on a chip…

Never saw Rosetta, but I have Cyber Studio and Spectrum 512 right here in my studio…
I’ve got one 100 disk rack for apps, and one for games, including some kick-ass German and French ones that weren’t even released over here!
(So…If you ever get a working ST again…)
How about that…Antique computers!

When I searched about these thing, this was the best collection:

Terragen (did some landscapes) Cool thing
Genesis II (very profesional, a free version available)
Kashmir .Looks very deep and powerful, but did not spent the needed time to learn it. Was a bit hard to, but nice thing.
Wilbur
And a lot other I have saved in my CDs, all 'em free.

You could easily generate those terrains and end them or use them for composition in Zbrush.

Search those words in any searcher, they’ll appear quickly

Genesis II is not Genesis 3D . This second one is a free editor for low poligon modelling, free, for a free game engine.

Thanks for the links. I downloaded genesis and played with it a bit. I will look for the others later…

Check out this guys landscape work done in Photopshop …
http://go.to/seungho

Pretty swish!!
Upham

PS. There’s a few annoying casino pop-ups that come with this site!

Wow. Great stuff. We need to invite him to the Z side…

I went to Seungho’s gallery and it is very awesome and inspiring. Hard to believe he did all that with just Photoshop. His technical abilities are amazing!

Is it really possible to paint like that with just photoshop? This guy is too good to be true . But on the other hand, when we see what masters of matte painting do for hollywood movies, we are forced to admit that it is possible.

I got to see some of the Star Wars matte paintings up close and personal at an exhibit. Pretty amazing stuff.

Hehe, cool, you’re lucky WingedOne.

mmmm

What about Vue d’Esprit4 ? you can get a free trial at www.e-onsoftware.com
