Knife Curve Brush modifier problem s on Mac?

Hi - I’ve been working through some hard surface tutorials in ZBrush on my Mac and I’m having trouble with some of the modifiers:

  • Option click to start a curve - this works as described but it also switches the side of the line that will be eliminated (though the shadow stays on the original side). Subsequently clicking ‘Option’ when the cursor is over empty space does not change the cutting side back (as it does with a straight line).

  • Clicking option again to continue a line with a new curve - this doesn’t work at all. By trial and error, I found that clicking ‘Escape’ and then clicking ‘Option’ would allow me to start a new curve. So this kind of works but is a little inconvenient.

  • Option double click to create a sharp corner - this I can’t get to work. Double clicking just starts a curve, not a sharp corner. I haven’t found a work around for this.

I’m wondering if any other Mac users experience similar issues and, if so, how they get around them? I can deal with everything else but I’d really like to be able to make sharp-cornered cuts.

Hello @BrianS

All functions of the Knife Curve brush work as expected for me on macOS. You will need to contact ZBrush Support in order to troubleshoot your installation environment.

In the meantime, here are some Apple resources for troubleshooting problems when keys don’t produce the intended effects:

Since you mention that you have to hit ESC after pressing Option in order for the effect to happen, I have to wonder if that key is being used to activate some other feature or program. Please make sure to disable any software overlays (like screen recording software) that may be changing or responding to the function of keys at the same time as ZBrush.

Hi @Spyndel ,

Thanks for your response! It opened up a couple of avenues of
investigation that ultimately led to the answer. The culprit was a piece of accessibility software that I was able to turn off for ZBrush. So far, the Knife Curve Brush is now working as expected.

But also, your point is taken and I’ll limit support questions to the official ZBrush Support site in the future.
