Kingpin!

Here’s my latest bit of fooling around. It’s the comic character Kingpin from Spiderman and Daredevil fame. I’ve still gotta paint him and make a suit and cane for him.
I also found out it’s really hard to make a fat guy seem strong.
Even though he’s a villain, I wanted to impart SOME sense of humanity, without making him too “Jolly”. I hope I succeded.

On another note, yes, I know that Kingpin isn’t really fat and that all his bulk is muscle, but I like the character the neck rolls add. Once he’s in his suit, I hope that impression will come through.

Anyway, hope you enjoy him,

Dickie

I really like the way you model his eyes.
keep the good work and happy zbrushing m8!!

Good work.:+1:
another fat dude in the classic of genre

If you look at Marvel’s Kingpin, part of what gives him that look of power over just being fat is to make him shorter than the average 8.5 heads high super hero. They also make him very blocky and angular.

I’m interested in seeing your interpretation done. So, as they say to me at work, “Get’er done!” :+1:

Thanks for the comments, folks. I followed the general concensus and made him more angular. I also exxagerated his features more, to make him more comic-like. I’ll post more later. Keep them comments coming…

Fantastic as always Dickie. Perfectly captured.

Thanks for sharing.

Word.

The update is good. I’m not familiar with the character, but the more angular features do make him look more menacing for sure. Excellent stuff.

Hey Dickie.
Thanks for all the kind words.
At the end of the day. Believe me it was my honor.
Since I have your permission.
Here it goes.
Man I love your character.
Very sweet. :+1:
I think in general if you mix the two guys you got and give him some more bulk you’ll have the character nailed!
I hope you don’t mind.
I did some quick photoshoping combing the 2 images you posted and bulking him up.
I just find it sometimes easier to just show it than try and describe.
Anyhow, I really like it and hope you’ll finish him up.

Once again, I want to make it publicly clear. It was not my intention to offend you in any way.
Nor should anything I create from your images influence what anyone else thinks.
This is only my interpertation.
Keep up the great work! I look forward to seeing this one finished.
Cheers

Great sculpting. Maybe he’d feel stronger and bulkier if you based his head shape on a square instead of an oval. That way he’d feel more squat and less vertical.

Well, what a difference a post makes… A BIG thanks goes to VoodooMonkey for his suggestions. I may not have followed them to the letter, but they certainly guided me to where I wanted the character to go.

Cesar sent me the message you see above in a private mail. He was worried I might be offended if he posted them in this thread. He need not have worried as I was honored that someone cared enough about what I was doing to actually paint his ideas down. This is an AWSOME thing to do.

I want to mention this favor he did as this is something we should do more ourselves, for other members on the board. Everyone’s comments on all my threads are precious to me and I know most of you feel the same.

Thank you again, Cesar. You rock, My Brother…

On this iteration of The Kingpin, I took Cesar’s advice and widened the neck and jaw. That immediatly put him in the vicinity I wanted him to go. He feels bulky without feeling fat. I now have to finish modeling the ears and then paint him. The suit will follow next as the clothes DEFINATELY make THIS man…

Hope ya dig him, and keep this comments coming…

When Spiderman fought him, kingpin almost wiped the floor with him. He’s extremely muscular and it just happens that he’s massive.

I notice your characters tend to have a similar pinheaded look ,are you starting from the same base mesh?

Crossbones:My Dan Akroyd Pinhead and this mesh are both taken from a roundheaded mesh. I just like that skull shape… There is a Kingpin action figure that has a bullet shaped head that I liked. That’s where I took the current shape from. As this is my take on Kingpin, I decided to go with the shape I liked… I have the image you sent for reference, but I thought he looked too muscle bound in the face for my liking…

Dickie

I’d like to know how Kingpin wiped the floor with Spidey, according to Marvel Universe, Spidey can lift 10 tons, thats way stronger than Kingpin has to be.

Hahaha don’t make this thread into a discussion of which super hero/villain can beat who, please! You can brobably find some comics forum for that one

And Dickie: Great work as always!

COs Kingpin is a tuff mofo…

hes lookin good, cant wait to see the body, and itd look pretti cool after you shape the lip around t hat cigar…itll add to that sinister grin…

i liked the kingpin in daredevil, eaven if he was black, he looked like kingpin, big strong and with mass :] dont know didnt read the marvels comics, but 10tons is a lot, he schould be able to throw cars in enemis, and go throght walls in buildings :]

Good God, geekwars are breaking out in my thread!! Stop this bickering or I’ll erect a transparent aluminum wall between ya…

MrLearner: Thanks for the props…

Eddski: His lip is shaped around the cigar. It’s just lost in shadow. Glad ya like where he’s heading…

Slocik: I like the black Kingpin too. I almost went that direction with him…

Thanks for the comments…
