Keira Knightly wip

i only found out about zbrush a week ago, played with the demo and had to buy it

heres my first model that isnt a test. any help on how to do the eyes and ears a bit better would be nice. and im at level 8 detail and the model still seems blocky in places like the nose, what am i doing wrong?

that button seemed to do nothing for me until i found the DSmooth setting under display properties. it does indeed make it look smooth, however it doesnt let me add a lot of detail. if i drop with projection master draw something and pick up, the line that i have drawn is very blocky. im sure its something really simple but i cant seem to find it in the help or on the forums

the pic below shows a couple of lines added with and without quick draw

how do i add eyes, if i draw a sphere it sits on top of the model and i cant move it into the right place, i dont understand how the eyes were added in the fish video.

what do people think of the model so far? lots of people have looked but no comments good or bad.

i wish magazines wouldnt photoshop every pic they get, it makes it really hard to find good reference pictures

off topic, anyone know how to store the settings so that multidraw and multirender are on when i start the program? they dont seem to save when i store the config

You can use the move tool in gyro mode to adjust the depth of an object. I am guessing that you have Z2. I use a mac and therefore have a different interface in Z1.55b so I can’t tell you exactly where to go. It should tell you in the pdf manual.

Once you comfortable with the interface you will be much happier with the results. Definately save this model as a base face. It is a good solid start for any character you may wish to make!

Have fun!

i wrote a quick explanation of how to make eyes like pixolator in
my daily thread http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=21065 , it’s somwhere in there, page 2 and 3. Hope it helps.

The model is starting to come along, but i think you should smooth out the area where the lips turn into the cheek. He looks real pouty now. Other than that i can’t think of anything right now. Maybe go down a subd level and smooth out the forehead.

thanks for the help with the eyes, its real easy when you know how. yes she is pouty but keira does that a lot so i thought it would be best to make the model pouty too  most of the work ive done on the model was the jaw and nose area so ive still gotta work on the upper part of the head a lot. but now thanks to you she has eyes.

yes i do indeed have z2, i was hoping that the gyro wasnt the only way to move stuff, it seems a bit hit and miss to use but i guess that helps things become more organic. i managed to get the eyes where i wanted them so its not as bad as i thought it was

no new pic today because all ive done is added the eyes.

zbrush is far to addictive its past 1:30 am and im still playing, must go to bed now

i thought i would try adding hair and texture but got in a real mess  , ive seen the different hair tutorials around here but im still learning so it may be some time yet before i get 3d hair. in the meantime i thought i would try out the 2.5d bits of zbrush. heres what i came up with the snake hook brush and just plain old colouring in

keira4.jpg

obviously its based on king Arthur

It looks so much like her its scary… …dead on spot.
Dont forget to post a final when you get around to the hair.
Amazing likeness.

nice=)

the main reason i tested the colour and hair was because i wasnt sure it looked that much like her. i was almost going to scrap the model and start again  im glad you like it

i think ive worked out my problems with texturing so i might give that a go. but the hair im still trying to work out the best way to make it and which style to make

as always, comments, ideas and suggestions very welcome

ok i tryed adding a texture but couldn’t find a good flat on picture of her doing the sort of expression i gave her . after trying texturing using a different picture i found her eyes were too low down. so in the picture below the first grey model is the one i used on the picture above, the other one is used for the textured model. it still needs a lot of work but i think i’m getting closer

WOW!! Man…that looks amazing… Keep up the xlent work.
Maybe add hair in 3ds or another app that has an hair plugin (just a thought) if available.
Its coming along great.

heres my latest update  ive been trying to add hair with gmax. i imported the model then tryed modeling hair with a box or polys or splines and was going to export then render in zbrush, but in the end i didnt think it would look right. so ive downloaded the demo of 3ds max 7 and a free hair plugin, but im having speed problems and im not sure how to show a lower res model and render with the high res one  when ive worked out what im doing the next picture should have hair and if i get round to it a proper texture

keira6.jpg

comments ideas etc all welcome

Why not just model the hair in Zbrush and if you want it really cool add a material with fibers or use the fiberbrush? You will have to have best render on, but the results are awesome, look at the Zbrush home page, down the right column.

i tried to model the hair in zbrush before but couldnt get the feel of how to make it look right. ive tried it again and here is the result, with and without fibers on. lots more work and it might look ok  i havent made a proper texture yet and didnt mask her head enough when pulling the hair about so there is a few glitches :o im still going to try and make hair in max but im going to keep working on zbrush hair as well

You need at least 3 materials the same, but a course stiff short hair, a medium in stiff and length and a long and soft variant. then paint the materials. NOW, you could also do a search of the forum for hair tut, wher using alphas people generated beautiful detailed and flowing hair from geometry - then combine both. (that’s what I’d do…)

…for give some hairs to this romantic girl
