Keep close faces separate using Dynamesh [Answered]

This is driving me crazy. Dynamesh is great and all, but there is a problem I can’t solve.
I’m modeling a foot and I’m making the fingers. As you know, the foot fingers are very close to each other, so my problem is that as soon as I refresh the Dynamesh, my fingers are merged together in the resulting mesh. This is really annoying!
I tried to set the smoothing to zero, but the result is the same, merged fingers.
Is there a way to tell zbrush to NOT merge the close polygons using Dynamesh?

I´m eager to know the answer also.

But I must comment on your “foot fingers”. They are correctly called “toes”…

Ah yes sorry, english is not my first language.

You need to use more Dynamesh resolution. You can:

A. Increase the value in the Tool>Geometry>Resolution slider.

Or:

B. Increase the size of the model by using the Tool>Deformation>Size slider.

However, remember that Dynamesh is a low to mid polygon density solution and won’t support complex detail.

Thanks Marcus, but can you tell me ho to increase the resolution? I mean, ok there is a slider, but when I move it, the Dynamesh doesn’t change. Even if I uncheck the Dynamesh button, increase the resolution slider, and re-push the button again, the mesh doesn’t change at all. What am I doing wrong?

Dynamesh will only update if you have made changes to your mesh. Normally you can simply undo the last re-mesh, change the resolution slider and try again. But if you can’t do that then just do a small bit of sculpting (something you can easily smooth later) and then re-mesh will work.
