WIP of sculpt I am currently doing for a class of mine. Have one more week, so hopefully I can get it done in time. Most obvious to finish is the hair, which in Zbrush I can’t really do well. Also some details such as wrinkles and a more gritty face paint.
Cool start. Looking forward to its completion. Keep us updated.
@SpicerCG appreciate the comment, and at least with this sculpt I was able to understand a few errors.
Decided to redo this sculpt. Here is what I’ve got so far. I know one of my biggest problems is symmetry. Need to not have it on when I try to sculpt likeness. Will try and fix that:
nooo… why would you start over? The first sculpt was really great - high likeness and good head texture.
One tip i have is to really pay close attention to the eyes. I hear that the first thing people notice is the eyes and if they don’t look real then it kills everything else. This includes the eye lids, wrinkles, crows feet, etc. Other then that you’re doing good imo.
@bissel123 haha appreciate your concern, and comment, but I really did not like how the original came out. Felt it was too “cartoony”. Thanks for the reply!!
@rkwongwai Very, very cool advice. Definitely took it into consideration when I went back to the project.
Here is my latest update:

The likeness is 90% there, great progress!
@Tenchi Ha! That’s actually pretty awesome to hear. I’m cool with 90% for now. Appreciate the comment.
Quick update
Looks awesome so far. Great likeness.
getting better day by day … .get going …
I went back to this project to try and clean it up. I’m basically starting over. Will try and recycle any meshes that’s still usable though to save time.
Here is my Maya sss render test. Like the results so far
I love how the paint is looking around the edges. I’ve never tried to make anything like that, but I imagine it has to be pretty hard to get something to look realistically degraded and smudged like that. Seriously awesome! Can’t wait to see more.
Thank you for that. It was done mostly with the spray stroke and alpha. Need to go back and tighten around it a bit though. Will clean up in photoshop.
CAn You Send A Full tutorial of this model
I can try and put something together. Hopefully it will help. I honestly kept this as basic as possible. Also, here are tutorials I used to help me out:

There was a video I used that I found on Youtube, and for the life of me I can’t anymore. There were two things though that I took away from it that helped me a ton. One, was before I added any maps to the maya fast sss shader, I made sure a light map was created. For some reason Maya won’t include a light map with the shader. Well, happens sometimes for me anyways. And secondly, again before adding maps, I mess with the Algorithm controls in the shader’s Attribute editor. It helps mostly with how the light is affected.
Ah, found it:
His clothing is giving me a ton of trouble. For one, there is a weird lagged texture effect at the edge of the collar. Maybe how I unwrapped it? If anyone knows how to remedy this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. And also the mesh is very problematic. I just have a hard time figuring out how to go about creating them. Especially the vest. Again, any tips will help a ton.
Really like the progress of this Joker! Looking forward to see the completed piece!
Thank you for that. This whole thing is still a learning experience for me, but I’ll try and not to disappoint.
