Joining Head to Body - Clean Topology?

I’ve separately sculpted a posed body and a character’s head. I’ve gotten this far and am hitting a wall trying to merge them in a clean fashion. At first I tried overlapping the subtools, Decimating and using Zremesher but i get jagged weld points at the seam and when using any smoothing functions in that area I start to make Zbrush choke. Using the Zremesh Guide Brush I don’t seem to improve my situation in any noticeable way.

I next tried closing holes on both subtools and can get it looking just okay but they are still obviously two pieces with a seam cutting through the mesh where the holes are closed. I’ve also tried using Dynamesh which gets the closest but I can’t seem to get enough detail in the sculpt in the end result. When I push dynamesh up to where I think it needs to be Zbrush crashes every time.

I’m now trying to clip the parts to create a better seam but can’t find a great way to merge them. Should I look into creating new geo with the Topology Brush or is there a better method? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Here are the head and body as two pieces and then with the pieces lined up.

Here he is Decimated and Zremeshed with the seam showing all the bad welding.

dynamesh to merge and then use decimation master to reduce polycount?

You could merge the head and body and click close holes button. Then duplicate this tool and hit Zremesher to get nice topology, (use zremesher curve guides for areas like eyes, mouth, ears etc). Then subdivide a few times and reproject the old mesh to get back all the sculpted details. Cheers

Thanks for the input friends. I believe I ended up 1. Duplicating the tool. 2. Dynameshing to close holes. 3. Decimating. 4.Zremeshing. and 5. Project All from the original. I may be forgetting a step or going out of order because I tried a million different iterations. In every case I ended up having to refine the details because I would get some jaggies on edges. I may have used Clay Polish on a low setting as well.

Either way I’ve gotten out of the hole I was in and I thank you for your input. I’m working on the hair now and expirimenting with the curve tube brush. I will post when it is finished and maybe even when I get it printed.

Cheers.
