Jewelry designer seeks CAD modeler

Hello All!

First, this site has blown me away with the passion and creativity of you artists. As a runaway from the mainstream jewelry industry, I deeply appreciate the use of CAD as a means to express the imagination and ability instead of simply to make a profit.

I am looking for an organic CAD designer to take the concepts and create the models which will then be finished in precious metals and gemstones. I work exclusively with recycled metals, and fair trade or recycled gemstones when possible.

I need help with creating 3 pieces:

  1. A men’s band with an infinite pattern modeled like a tree trunk all the way around
  2. A woman’s ring with a tree branch pattern all the way around, and gemstones on the top
  3. An animal skull ring

Positioning and strength for the gemstones is important, but if you don’t feel comfortable with that but are interested in creating the pattern that will be inlay into the rings is okay.

If you interested in the concepts, have experience with jewelry and want to make some $, please let me know!

Thanks,

Justinder

Would not a CAD forum or Rhino forum be the place to look for a CAD artist?

I already have posted on gemvision/rhino and tspline forums. I just love the work done here. Plus, my concepts are ultra organic, which lend themselves to someone with zbrush type experience

Is there a lot of work for organic modelers using Rhino and tsplines for jewelry?

Because I just met with a small jewelry design group that is trying to use Rhino to zbrush then Modo and back to Rhino again. They are looking to refresh and old product line fora large jewelry manufacture.

They also where interested in learning zbrush, so I made quick model to show them how it works.

As of right now, no. CAD is just starting to go mainstream with simple modifications to common designs being called custom. However, in the near future as the idea of CAD modeling matures, the custom and artistic design is going to get much more detailed and intricate. With the new HD wax printers and advancements in casting technology, the detail of zbrush like sculpting will be detailed enough in the final piece to be seen and really bring the piece to life. It is the direction I want to take with my personal design work. I am currently having my basic models done in Rhino and detailed models carved by hand, but want to move to rhino and zbrush modeling for the detailed designs. Jack du Rose and Tomas Wittelsbach are both pioneering a combination of detailed and textured models with high value metals and gems. The possibilities for the future of jewelry design are endless!

I’m a jeweler who mostly metalsmiths, and have always carved by hand however Zbrush is a wonderful tool. In fact while Rhino and matrix are good The Z as I call it gives me way more freedom. It’s not free however as all gemstones need to be modeled. I’ve done that and with that I can do more and faster (with exception to awesome rendering I’m sure that’s coming at some point) than the jewelry programs. Have you started any topographies? If so I can finish and cast them and set the stones. The leaf band I have done already pictures of the real deal are available on facebook.
