Hey James, i love your costume design, the helmet for the troll is pretty great, however what I don’t like is the hair in the witches eyes assuming that is what that is, if it’s some sort of mask or something it needs more definition or something, i’m really not quite sure what it is, the trolls face overall was a huge surprise, he doesn’t seem all that menacing helmet off and he seems kinda goofy due to the big nose. I think he needs a little bit more of a snarl or something and maybe less wrinkles all over his face. Hope this helped

Oh also the weapon is a cool concept, the tusks need to thin out more on it at the end but that’s about as far as I can critique that!

I will comment on the first piece. I like the siloette and design. Since its a WIP, im sure you are already aware of some problems but def get yourself some good cloth reference for the witch and also for the skulls, they still arent quite there yet. Keep up the good work!

ScrapPile : Thanks for the advice, the thing on her head is going to be mask I have not added the hair yet. I was going for a leaf/flowery type look for it. I will work on it more to get that look across. Your right about the trolls face i guess it does look goofy when the helmet comes off.

Mandance : Yeah I am still working on the cloth on her to get it to look right, thanks for the info.

great to see your stuff here James! i’m sure the public wants to see the updated troll face.

Here is a quick update on the troll.

The overall lumpiness of the head suggest a lack of anatomy, it seems as if it doesn’t have a skull whatsoever more like a lump of jello in it’s head, it needs more basic form to it as if it has some sort of skull. I’m not saying it needs to be human but maybe do a quick sketch and establish what it’s skull would look like underneath so that you have your own references to work from. One thing one of my professors told me that really stuck is that when you make some creature from another world, don’t just give it shapes to make it look cool, give it form to make it be able to work and exist within it’s world. This current shape looks very vulnerable, very unshielded in the natural way - as if to say that if he was just one of the other creatures in the jungle, any little falling branch or stone might kill him in the soft spots in his brain. I hope you don’t take any of this as harsh, just trying to help

come on James … post the finals

It has been a bit since i posted my progress, I needed to take a short break. Here is the progress i made from my earlier work.

Here is my troll I have been working on. I took some things off him and added stuff as well. I am happy how it turned out and have started painting it.

I have started some new projects that i will be posting on here soon as well as the painted models from above.
