ZBrushCentral

It's all reversed

Hi my name is Bertmac And Im new to Zbrush
At the moment i’m doing the practical Manual
BUt when i was free styling something happened
i really don’t know

But to be short,
-When i want to make a mask i’m deselecting ( so my scare color is light gray ).
-When i’m drawing with intensity on 60 and zadd clicked on, it looks like i’m using zsub
(when i’m extually using zsub it looks the same, the geometry goes inwards)
also when i just wanna draw on the canvas i see nothing, if i draw with a obj tool made in Maya on the canvas i don’t see it until i click T

I really don’t know what i did wrong
It all did work before
I also initialized Zbrush to get back to it’s original state.
I hope somebody can help me with this, i really don’t know where the search for here on this forum, which will address these problems.

Kind regards Bertmac

Perhaps you’ve activated alt-lock on your keyboard (independent of ZB). Try pressing Ctrl-Alt

An Alt-lock i thought those where only active when u use"Universal access" on your computer. (eeh sticky key’s right)
it say’s its off in my control panel.
And CTRL- Alt does not seem to help 2.

But thanks anyway “Antimorph” for showing some direction  :+1:
I looked some more on this forum and came across this
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=17388&highlight=alt-lock

This also does not seem the help
But it looks like it is the same problem

Its so strange, i mean im on a mac and to activate any sticky key you have to press it 5 times on a row.
well this seems not the case,
So im kinda lost

Hope you guy’s have some more suggestions

Thanks

What material do you have selected? Try changing that, let us know what happens.

Theres also an alt lock in zbrush, see is your cursor in edit mode red or blue

if blue or any other color than red - its locked.

If thats not the problem then it must be the material.

There is no other way untill and unless u pressing alt in someway.

I haven’t used mac in my life so still can be something I do not know.

N.B- Well Mac are not used in India much - lack of publicity and almost double the cost of windos pc + service problems are the reasons.

Thanks guy’s
4 the warm welcome here on this forum.

Well i looked at my material
And it seemed to be the basic material
So i guess that leaves the Build in Alt lock from Zbrush
I mean my pointer is not red. so it’s locked

Eeh wckedsunny would you be so kind to tell me how to unlock it

I could not find anything about it

Thanks

PS: I don’t think the mac version differs that much from the pc version, i only wanted to make clear i don’t have a win button.

Do you have the ‘Num lock’ key on? I have the Mac version, but never came across your issue. By the way, quite a bit is different with Mac and Pc versions, hopefully it will get straightened out.

Hmmm no i dont have that key on

And your right, i don’t know Zbrush well enough to say there aren’t that much difference,
But i was mainly speaking of the shift, Ctrl and option buttons,

Well my render is almost finished in Maya
when this is done i can go restart.

It might help
But i still think that when wickedsunny answers, it will be fixed

So again thanks y 'all for looking in to the problem,
it feels good to have so many reply’s in a short amount of time for such a stupid thing.

regards

Check the Zbrush Preferences panel…

Sorry buddy I went off to sleep.

There are time differences between USA and India

well the cursor must be blue circle instead of red one…

I have myself locked it only once so Do not know much about it-

you probably have to press ctrl +shift +alt together or 2 of these key together to lock and unlock it.

You try them out while I find out exactly which one works,

remember cursor will be visible only inside edit mode when you drop a 3d object on screen and then press edit [or T]

If it does not work then please show a screenshot of your zbrush screen, when you try placing a 3d model to see exactly whats the problem.

well, rendering is done so i can finally restart my comp.

ok that seemed to work, i dont have the problem anymore

Still i think its strange, i mean i did restart and init Zbrush many times,
So???

So i still wanna find out what i did,
Yeah get this im actually pressing all the buttons again to see if i can get back to the error

Anyway i wanna thank all of you guy’s for the help
i learned a lot,

Only…Jason Belec !!!what did u mean by look in the prefs
i’ve been looking but did see nothing concerning this problem,(or i dont know where to look 4)
Can you be a lil bit more clear on that.

Thanks again y’all

Open up th eprefs tab and go through it, all the Zbrush stuff is controlled there.

Eeeh ok
Sorry but i lost you here.

Im a mac user to, so that’s the first thing i do, going through the prefs
But what has that to do with this “Lock” problem.
And if so where do i need to look, i mean i did not see anything about lock or key’s or so.

Sorry i guess i don’t understand what u are talking about.

Bertmac

Haha, well I bet I’ve been a Mac user longer. Zbrush interface, Preferences. May not have anything to do with it, just suggestions.

hehehe are you that old,
No but with out kidding
I understand your intentions but no
It did not solve the problem,

And its good to see a senior member using a mac in the 3d world that long
Btw i started in 1983 using a mac (not that does say a thing, but he), And i still have it (working) :+1:

How to “lock” the Control key in pressed state:

In edit mode, hold down the Alt key first, then press and release the Control key, Now release the Alt key.

You’re Control key is locked and you’re in continuous mask mode (cursor stays yellow).

How to cancel “lock” Control key:

Simply press the Control key again.

The freaky thing is that other Control key operations are now continuously active…! Example, press any buttons on shelves and they start disappearing…

Sven :stuck_out_tongue:

edit: Hmm re-reading, I see that this wasn’t your problem - sounds like you somehow locked the Alt key instead? I’ll see if I can find a way to do (and undo) that too.

second edit: … sorry… after trying a number of things I’ve had no luck. I do vaguely remember once or twice ZBrush “going south” seeming to have a locked Alt-key (reversing Zadd and Zsub) and having to restart ZBrush to solve it.

Heya Sven, when you start ZBrush the pen end that first registers on the tablet becomes the Zadd and the other end the Zsub/eraser. Not sure why it is like that, but it must be good for something  Come to think of it, after scratching my ear with the eraser end the strength of the smooth edit brush triples !!! Another top tip ! Well, a greasy tip.

I know, shutting up

ah, the bewildering alchemy of ZBrush!

I tried touching the eraser-end-first and, yes, the drawing end became Zsub. Then I tried Alt with the drawing end… and it STAYED sub! But, draw with the eraser as Zadd, THAT turns to Zsub with the Alt key. :o

Oh, and you did see >>> THIS <<< thread didn’t you? :o :o

Sven

Wow Cool I think that’s it, Svengail
Yep im back in the reversed mode
Hmm the one time CTRL clicking doesn’t work
And restarting Zbrush either
After restarting i have the same problem
Meaning
Drawing my model, Cant see a thing
Pressing edit and the model pops up.
The only thing the works is restarting my comp
Ok now i know
So because i don’t get the navigation that good right now in Zbrush, i messed up

But still strange that i could happen.

So i don’t think its the register problem, not only that but most of the time when i start Zbrush, i start with the mouse,so when i go in to edit mode its the first time i touch my mouse
(You might need to read that twice,)

Well ok i know the problem now, how do i solve it
It doesn’t seem to be a regular thing.
right now im going pressing buttons and see what i can get up with.

Thanks`

PS: Again im really impressed by the kindness off the people of this forum
I mean its my first post and it has a lot of reply’s
I think that’s cool

Yeah team! Solved that for Bertmac! By the way Bertmac, my first machine from the fabled company was before that actually. A real WOZ kit! Built my Apple and Apple II, had every iteration released.
