Items Added to Folder when Merging Layers Down

When merging down layers within a folder, it seems that items outside of the folder (directly below in layer order) get added to the folder.

Example:

  1. Layers A, B, C, and D are in a Subtool.
  2. A, B, and C are in a folder, while D is not.
  3. Merging A with B seems to add layer D to the folder set.

Desired behavior: Do not add a layer to a folder when merging items down within that folder.

Note: I am unsure if this is a feature request, or a bug report. Happy to place elsewhere if appropriate.

Hi @BlueAppleStudio

If the subtool is above the folder in the subtool list, it will not be added.

I’m honestly not certain if this is a bug or just the way the tool works. It was the same in zb2019. If you find it confusing, just use the folder’s “Merge Folder” command, and toggle the visibility for any subtools you don’t want included. This is generally a superior way to do it, as it is non-destructive to your original set, and simply creates a new merged subtool in your subtool list.

If you ever need to report a bug, those need to be reported to Pixologic Support via support ticket. This is just a community forum, and we don’t actually fix bugs for the program.

Thank you for the reply @Spyndel.

There are certainly workarounds for this, but I believe the software would benefit from changing the current behavior.

I have submitted a ticket on the subject.

Best,

-Adam

Yes, but bug aside, the way you are attempting to do this would be the workaround for what you want to do. It is generally an inferior approach to the method I mentioned above for the reasons stated.
