Issues with rotating and framing subtools

Hello,

Every once in a while I will have a subtool that I unable to frame or rotate properly. With the framing issue, it sometimes doesn’t center the object to the document, rather it frames it off center, sometimes so much that it’s no longer visible. With the rotation issue, sometimes as I rotate around the object it will zoom in and out, sometimes to such a large degree that my object becomes tiny and I have to manually zoom in again.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens? Sometimes I am able to fix this issue by exporting the object and then reimporting it, but as far as I can remember this doesn’t fix it all the time (I might be mistaken with this though, this issue happens pretty infrequently), and ideally I’d be able to avoid this issue to begin with by knowing what causes it in the first place.

I’ve made short little video that demonstrates the issue I’m having, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try pressing 0 (for actual size and center the canvas), Then P (turning off Perspective) and then press F to frame.
Let me know if some of this things helps in some way.

i know in the video you said there is no other geometry but are you sure you don’t have a stray vert somewhere?
a quick way to test that is to mask off the object, then click hide unmasked, the click “delete hidden”.
if you get a popup saying part of the mesh has to be hidden first, then you know there isn’t a tiny stray particle floating around.

I did the steps you suggested and got the popup saying part of the mesh has to be hidden first, it doesn’t look like I have a stray vert in this case.

Turning off the perspective seemed to fix it for me, it now rotates around the object and frames just fine! Do you know if there’s a way to get it to work with the perspective on? If not it’s not really a big deal, I can always start the mesh again with new geometry. Mostly I just wanted to know what was causing the issues in the first place and it seems like having perspective on was the problem.

Ran into something similar here. In the Transform Pallette is Dots display, when you drag in the canvas it will just show points. Black canvas, white dots, found my mystery points so I could delete them.
