Isaac's Sketchbook

September 15th

A couple hours later. . .

the wings have been more of an experiment, and as always a learning process. There is still some more I want to do with it, buuuut who knows.

Heres the first 55% of the female version. They dont really look related because Im still learning too much in between lol not that you can tell. I’ve been experimenting with the strap curves tool thingy, and I also bumped into the version that adds bullets. . . you cant not use a brush whose sole job is to add epicness. Thats a fact. Anyways, C&C as always! stilll waiting for the loomis book :frowning:

Ill be finishing this up and maybe modeling a jeep? I haven’t really left the wacom in three days, so maybe ill go meet women instead

Second Week of September

Well. Im waiting for that Loomis book to arrive (figure drawing for all its worth) and in the meantime, here’s something I’ve been working on.

I was trying out some hardpoly modeling. All very amateur of course, but i (finally) figured out how to use dynamesh to add and combine meshes!!! excitement!!! Used that for the jetpack and the submachine gun. I used the transpose/rotate tools to move the arms into position, but it looks, well, like crap. thats something ill be working on. As well as hands. . . . Im not sure what it is. I can draw hands fantastically, but I can’t model or sculpt them to save my life! practice practice practice. . .

a couple more hours. . .

I touched up the arms a bit. hopefully they’r improving. the shoes are still pretty blocky. I had a super hard time getting in there and sculpting right next to the axis with mirroring enabled. maybe now ill fix the hands. bleh. Ill more likely start the female version, and just apply everything i’ve learned during this one. Or give 'im a gun that doesn’t look like it was used by his great great great grandfather.

Finally got around to watching the zclassroom video on the curve mesh inserts. Fascinating stuff; the possibilities!

I also went to the library and got Zbrush Character Sculpting v1 edited by Simon Morse and Published by 3d total. has some great hard surface sculpting tips, and fantastic artwork of course.

First Week of September

This fall, im taking a 3d modeling class, and doing several side projects which will hopefully push me to new heights artistically. Well thats the idea anyways

September- In preparation for my later school and personal projects, I’ve started making some generic assets, starting of course with male and female base meshes. These (and probably most everything I post) I modeled in Maya and finished in zbrush. c&c welcome!

Making a good turntable isn’t something I’ve studied yet, but there you go.

It is a good start. The male arms look broken at the elbows. If I may suggest something. Look up an artist named Andrew Loomis. The way he creates his characters are perfect for sculpture. Look at the rhythms he creates in the gesture and how he simplifies his forms.

You have a good start here with your forms.

Good luck,

Sean

Thanks Sean! im going to fix that after class today and repost. Let me know what you think.

I love loomis. I have his head drawing book. I’d forgotten about him somehow. Looks like his figure drawing book is only 25 bucks on amazon! Easy choice there.

Isaac

Yes, Andrew Loomis is awesome. If I may point out something…the female feet are too small. If this is a stylistic choice for small feet, do I sketch so the forum members know what direction your going in.

Your doing good,

Sean

Heres some more work I’ve done on the Male. C&C welcome!

not completely finished, but since Ill just be adjusting it to each of my personal projects, Im not sure how much more I want to do with it.

heres some work I’ve done over the weekend. I’ve been exploring using the topology brush to create pieces of the armor. It’s been working rather effectively for me. c&c welcome!

Something that I was working on last night, still figuring some things out as I go, but it was fun to finally find an excuse to use the zipper tool

Stiiiiiiill stuck on my laptop. I tried upgrading my desktop with a i7 3820, but the lga 2011 board I got was no good. so maybe next week ill be able to use my cintiq again :frowning:

Lovely designs, I especially like the latest suit  however the back of your male character seems a little off. Not a lot, and who knows, I may just be imagining it.
