ZBrushCentral

is there still much demand for figures?

does anyone here create poseable figures for a living? i was at renderosity and checked out the merchandise section and now i am curious … is it worthwhile or a headache ?

with the raw talent here , zbrush central could start a ready made production fx company… some of the monsters in movies don’t look that great
:frowning:

I have done a couple of Poser figures for fun, prior to Zbrush. They are a real pain to set up properly IMVHO. Of course I was using Poser 4.03, Pro Pack and P5 might have made it a little easier. I am looking at using Zbrush to create a couple more. If I can learn it. With Zsphere I think it should go nicely! The real hard part I have found is that body parts cannot overlap. And the two items I have made in Zbrush have this overlapping in them, which means I must take them to another program and edit the end result to correct it by moving, cutting, and welding at vertice level. I also like the way Zbrush can make morph targets. For the masters of Z it might not be difficult to create the item, but more then setting up in Poser that would create the problem.

yah, prepare to go prematurely bald if you don’t use pro pack
there are a couple of things over at renderosity that get good prices, but there is no way of telling how MUCH of each was sold . it would suck to do a lot of work on something and wind up only making 400 dollars that you have to split with renderosity   that would almost be a savage burn , also , if your character starts popping up in their gallery , since a lot of them are poser fans … so i was just wondering if it was worth it, if anyone does this

Lots of small companies sell poser packs, not just figures but props, even hair… Of course that was for Poser 4. Poser 5 can grow hair now.

I would say, like anything, depends what type of figures, the so called market is flooded with “victoria” models. lol
More eyes could open up for creative figures.

Just, please don’t give them names!

I don’t think you could make a living at it … maybe a little extra pocket money if your products were good and distinctive

I don’t know where Poser renders end up, other than on Renderosity … I think organic models are still IN for that kind of stuff [as a side note, the skin always folds funny around the shoulders, did they ever fix that?]

As for other types of models, the markets would be games and (rarely) movies … both iffy propositions money-wise … but if you know you are good, build up a portfolio and send it around … invest in a website and use the right keywords on the front page so that Google etc. will index it … science fiction book publishers are another market, e.g. DAW and TOR, but of course there are a limited number of slots per year (in the hundreds, but still there is a lot of competition)

 at gummie – oh come on, there must be room in the Poser world for “Zebula” or “Jocasta” or “Humphrey”

yah, i dont really see the market… most of what it is is lingerie and breast enhancements  thats what strip clubs are for  …the extra pocket money wouldn’t be worth creating a demon character, and finding it with porno morphs or whatever in a month … here goes his tight leathers and boots with biker cap for 12 bucks  i just thought if the money was outstanding , then sure ! thats why i wanted to know if someone does this as a job . some of them go for 100 dollars… and that would be pretty sweet to have coming in from the side if it was brisk. i might e-mail one of the sellers, but its probably like that leonardo movie “THE BEACH” if it is good they wouldn’t want every !@#hole showing up. boop boop .especially with some of the product… i wouldn’t be suprised if the brazilian mafia was involved with some of them

poser 5 can grow hair now?

You already have contacted a seller, me. I am a murchant there. I have just started about 6 months ago selling items. I have three there now. Mostly textures and props, one I created a set of claws and tail along with head morph, not your average Barbie Vicky 2 character and it did not sell to well. A big thing in these forums I am learning is that you have to have a name for yourself or know one of the top dogs there. This goes for Renderosity, Renderotica, 3D Commune, and Poser World. At present do not think it would be a good thing to do unless you can wip something up in a short time frame. All these companies take 50% or more depending on whether or not you sell you item there only or on multiple sites. So then it comes to quantity or cost should I sell at $5 and hope for 100 sales or 50$ and only get two…I hpe this clears things up for you…

thanks for the info hawktoey, thats pretty much what i wanted to know

(since i wrote the sentence above i went to renderosity just to check out the poser section and it was crazy… there was like 8 pages of thumbnails of finished art , just for today ((the 24th)) it’s not even noon yet , i don’t think
so still i have visions of a sea of poser addicts desperate for props and demons  ) but then again posers been around for a while so they probably have their wardrobes and props and dungeon backdrops so …

Just to prove that it’s not all Barbie’s and Ken’s  , have a look at blbarrett’s and sixus1’s Renderosity stores for non-human creatures that sell, and have a look through the various catagories at Daz3d too. Although you could forego the models and use TextureMaster to make texture sets for various items too.

Adamac,
I personally know someone who is bringing home about $3-5,000 per month from their original Poser characters. This person has been making this much money for about four years now. Heck, DAZ is a multimillion dollar company and all they do is make figures for Poser. I would have to say that it is definately a market to be looked into!
BTW, 3dCommune.com only requires 30% of the profits, leaving the artist with 70% of their own profits… this puts them way ahead of everyone else as far as I can see.
Take care man,
Keep up the great work.
p.s. I looked at your Swampthing thread and there were no images posted? Did you remove them?

$3-5K/mo for 4 years?

I’ve been looking around to do that kind of thing, maybe for general models on TurboSquid.com or elsewhere, but I wasn’t sure that even good work would garner any decent volume, and I would be happy averaging a sale per item per month.

hey pus, yeah i took them down because im too compulsive and it would mess up my deadlines… i dont know if others do this but i draw at home with no boss or anything watching me and when i’m working i’ll bounce back and forth between drawing and the internet and it slows my pace  i had stuff posted at renderosity and took them down too. between galleries and email it sucks up like two or three hours (or more) per day that i need. see, even now i’ve typed a page
that sounds pretty good though, i mean i thought that there must be some demand (youve seen the poser gallery, i’m sure
500 gallery posts’ per day  ) i’ll try it out… if i was a smarter bussinessman i would wrangle up some people here and start a monster company
best
adam

The problem isn’t the price, it’s the earnings

When I first started playing casino games, I never imagined that it would become my full-time job. However, after discovering Australia’s Royal Reels royalreelscasino.org and its amazing selection of games, everything changed. At first, I was skeptical about the idea of playing casino games for a living. After all, most people view gambling as a hobby or a form of entertainment rather than a legitimate. The platform’s reliability and secure transactions further enhance the overall gaming experience. Playing Royal Reels Casino is not just a hobby, but a lifestyle choice that I thoroughly enjoy.
