Is there some way to have smaller Brush/Alpha/Stroke icons?

I’ve got a small-ish screen tablet, so many of the buttons and icons are messed up in my UI. In an effort to fix it, after scaling all icons to be smaller in Preferences > Interface > UI, I still think I could save up on more space.

By default the “Current Brush/Alpha/Stroke” buttons are big, like in the top example of the image. The smaller ones buttons are placeholders I placed of and specific Alpha and Stroke to help visualize what I want to achieve. Those small buttons don’t change the thumbnail to the Alpha or Stroke that I’m currently using, as I can only find big buttons for that purpose. Is there some way to make “Current Brush/Alpha/Stroke” buttons like the small ones in the image?

Hello @Iron5nake ,

You can enable the small buttons in Preferences> Interface> UI> Wide Buttons (disable). However these buttons function differently than the larger main selector buttons which are general purpose selectors. The smaller button are usually tied to a specific item/slot, and will not update their thumbnail unless you use that exact button to select a different item. This behavior would be the same if you dragged one of the wide brush-specific buttons to the UI (for instance for the standard brush). Note that even when you disable wide buttons, the main selector button in the alpha, brush, or material palettes stay the same size. This illustrates the difference between those types of buttons. I’m not aware of a “small” version of the general purpose selector buttons for most features.

However, the small buttons work perfectly fine in the UI for switching selections if you are willing to live with that limitation.

Your options:

  1. Decrease the Button size globally ( Preferences> Interface> UI> Button Size)

  2. Use the small buttons and live with the limitation. You can always keep the large version of the selector buttons on the UI if you want an accurate preview of the active selection.
