the patches are colour bump/noise, is there any way I could use them to distort the image?( I want to try a technique discussed in a older thread about rocks, copying a layer pushing it back 5 in z depth and then using blur brush to bring the bottom layer through any lowered parts. and also is there any easy way to make other bits match(head and arms) draw separately and added, my computer can handle me deforming the mesh of the body, and so i am going to create hand/head separately and was wondering if i could copy the colouring etc.
Did you paint the material on Reyd, or did you just select the material and apply it to the whole body?
Here are two spheres…The one on the left uses Basic Material, the one on the right Toy Plastic material…By adjusting the Noise Value, Noise Radius, and Color Bump, I produced these in about 2 minutes…Is this what you’re asking about?
very close!, it is preset material over a textured body, colour bump is at max, and modified noise curve, and lots of noise. I cant seem to get enough change in it to make it work. am going to remake it after, will show settings then. any ideas about the hands/head?
First, why use a preset? Why not make your own material for the purpose…?
These are both just standard materials with slight modification, and it’s easy to do from scratch. In any event, if you go into Edit mode when you add hands or heads or whatever, if you choose the same material you used on the torso it will work the same on the other parts…
The best way to learn about materials is to do what I’ve done here. Draw a sphere on the screen, pick a ‘non-bumpy’ material and custom build it to suit. If you want, you can save the material under a different name, and load it in when you’re ready to texture…
If you want, I can do you a quick script so you can watch me do this…
As far as doing a body, it’s a LOT easier to use ZSpheres in my opinion…
Let me know if you want the script, because I’ll be leaving my studio in an hour or so…
hmmm perhpas I missphrased it again. it is a standard material(the only kind I know of) . I then modified the settings so I guess by what you said, yes it is a material I made. it is a zsphere body, I cannot go into edit mode and modify it to make hands, pulling out a finger makes a spike, and takes 15 seconds lag from my pull to it appearing.
I was referring to making the entire body, including hands in your ZSphere model…
Like this…
I tried that couldnt get the hand to be clear (using unified skin) its so tiny to work on
even at the most I can expand it without lagging my system too badly to bother. believe me I would much rather do it that way
could you send me a link for the bane chat? i still cant find the link
I NEVER use unified skinning…That explains a lot right there…
It is REALLY tricky to get a unified skin not to reduce your model to skinny ‘pointy bits’…
Try adaptive skinning, and see if that works better. The very best way to learn skinning and ZSpheres is to make a chain of three or four, and experiment with settings until you have it down. I KNOW you want to leap right in, but it will give you a much quicker learning curve with these if you start by learning what each setting does seperately, and a simple model will teach this…You can save yourself a heap of frustration that way.
First set the ZSpheres up, then tweek each setting seperately to see what it does…I could do you a script in 10 minutes that would prove this to you, but that’s up to you.
making the fingers of zspheres is the hard part
not the skinning so much, I can never get adaptive skins to look good, have spent 10 or 15 hours playing with em
what about the chat function? I still cant get it to work.
I always have adaptives do that on me(go all skinny or suchlike, and still havent found a good way to make the joint between legs and body without using unified skinsthe adaptive always creases so I only use it as a previewing tool(preview mode) to get an idea of what my unified skin will look like.
I sent you an email on the chat…
Here’s a hand I just made quickly, and the ‘wrinkling’ is because I haven’t moved the ZSpheres around yet…You can make it a lot tighter but this was a couple of minutes to do…
grumbles lol:P ok but is there any way I can duplicate the texture onto the hand? I need to make it separately after the main zsphere thing is already done (ok I admit it, its also because I’m a lazy bastard, and I dont want to have to redraw the body either:P)
If you’re in Edit mode, and have a texture or material selected, then it’s selected, and is applied to your model…Apply a material to the body…Draw a new tool…You’ll find that the same material is applied to it too, unless you’ve selected another material.
BTW, I am in the Chatroom right now, and it works fine.
hmm I sent you a screenshot, could you point out where the join chat link should be? or send me a screenshot of yours showing where it is. ok, I guess ill just draw a new texture/colouring on the hands(thats the part i need to copy, not the material)
