Is there a way to squareify a round object without changing the poly count?

So I made a belt buckle for a project. I’ve created some nice morphs for it but I’d like to take the base, a round shape, and squareify it if possible. I’ve tried just about everything I know of but nothing looks quite right. The main objective is to NOT change the poly count or poly order so the other morphs continue to work.

Any help?

Thank you!
Richard

Hiya Richard.

The Gizmo deformer Project Primitive should be useful here.

Hmmm, seems useful. I’ll have to investigate that bit more. Not sure if there is a way to activate it without loading up the dummy head project though. I don’t see how to within my own work space!

It works on any active subtool for which Gizmo /move mode (W) is active. Click on the gear icon at the top of the Gizmo manipulator to bring up the list of deformers.

The controls for Blend, Max displacement, Opacity, and the general modifier control may all be useful to define the softness/hardness of the shape.

It’s far from the only way to turn a shape into a cube in Zbrush, but it’s the only one I can think of that wont destroy or overly distort the topology.

Very cool.

Found this page:

So yes, it’s taken me this long to work my way back to needing this function but the link takes me to a blank page. Plus there have been multiple updates to ZBrush so perhaps this is now built into the program and if so is there a tutorial for deforming primitives from sphere to square or thereabouts?

Thanks so much!

This tutorial is present for me. Perhaps you need to adjust your browser settings?

:slightly_smiling_face:

You misunderstood. The link above labeled Project Primitive takes me to a “Isn’t this embarrassing” page! LOL
