Is there a way to give a gap between IMM curve meetup point? (when pressing shift)

So you know when we press shift while using a IMM curve brush it will close off right?

So i want to make a belt. But the first and third polygroup keeps hitting altogether.

that tutorial is my base, the thing is, i have to use the second method with the second polygroup being smaller, cuz if not my brush will become so small and hard to control. So is there a way to control the meetup point?

basically i want to make a belt. I already download some from badking and from the zbc forum, but it keeps intersecting when i tried pressing shift to close the curves.

Do you know any way to create a belt closing correctly?
