I do not like the white skin shade material for Ztools preview icon. It is hard to read from Lightbox and much prefer the old red wax or other matcaps. Does anyone know if there is a way to change this default preference? (not looking to pre-fill with Mrgb switched on before saving it out)

I’m not aware of any way to do this, outside of scripting to automate the process you said you are uninterested in. If you’d like to submit a feature request, that should be sent to the developers directly via support ticket.
