Is there a difference between regular painting and polypainting?

I apologize if this may seem like a dumb question but can someone tell me if there is 'regular" painting in Zbrush that’s different and more basic than polypainting? Or is the term “polypainting” just Zbrush-speak for painting a model?

Thank you.

Hi cosmasad,

please have a look to the ZBrush documentation regarding this item:
http://docs.pixologic.com/features/main-features/texturing/

In short words, every polygon on your object get a specific color with polypaint.
In this case a 3D polygon is the same as a 2D pixel in a picture.

If you have a low polygon object then your polypaint will be in a low resolution with few details.
It’s the same as you would paint the Mona Lisa with a resolution of e.g. 256x256 pixel.
You can imagine that you can’t paint many details with this resolution.

If you have a high polygon object then your polypaint can be in a high resulution with many details.
It’s the same as you would paint the Mona Lisa with a resolution of e.g. 8k x 8k pixel.
You can imagine that you can paint many many details with this resolution.

I hope this helps

CU and have a great day.
