Is my subtool off center?

I can’t tell if my model (the head) is off center or not. When I hold shift and rotate my view it snaps into kind of a 3 quarter view of the model, which is what’s making me think it somehow got rotated. I don’t think I ever rotated it. All the other subtools seem to line up to it, which would be strange if it was rotated. The first image has the position of the head showing on the side, but I guess that’s just its position on the move position (if that’s even a term?), rather than showing its rotation position. I’m not sure where to see it’s rotation values.

I’m appending a sphere for the body so I wanted to ask.

If it is off center, is there a way I can select all the subtools and right them to the center all at once? Maybe I have to group them or something to do that?

Thanks!

Hello @lowhues ,

The first thing you’ll want to do is to disable Perspective mode. You could simply be seeing perspective distortion.

Then switch on the Floor Grid to help visualize the center. Go to the Draw palette, and set the elevation to zero. This will center the floor grid on your model, and you may be able to see if the model is visibly off center.

If you can’t glean anything from that, try using Tool> Geometry> Modify Topology > Mirror and Weld, make sure that Local Symmetry (L.Sym ) is OFF. It is off in the screenshot.

This will force mirror the geometry from side to side in the model. It may be necessary to temporarily delete any subdivision levels , but you can Ctrl-Z back after checking.

If you see any visible shift in the geometry in one side of the mesh when you mirror it, then it was off center on the global axis. If it was perfectly centered then mirroring from side to side should produce no visible change.

This feature is also how you can force the mesh back into symmetry. Keep the floor grid on and move the visible center of the mesh as close to the world center as possible, then Mirror and Weld the geometry.

Thanks! You were right, it was because I had perspective on. Don’t know why I didn’t even think of that.

I will refer back to your reply if I’m ever having any other issues with centering. Thanks again!
