Is Dynamesh a bad idea at high poly resolution?

Is there a thresh hold for when to stop using dynamesh? 500K active points? 1 million? and why?

For example, lets say I have a 1 million polygon sculpt, and I use dynamesh set to 4096 resolution to even out topology because I messed up some topology on a small area of the sculpt. Bad idea?

They say you will lose detail from dynamesh, but can’t you just set the resolution slider high?

It depends on what you’re sculpting, and what your workflow is.

I’m I’m still building out forms from scratch with the sculpting brushes, I’ll always prefer to have lower resolution geometry with subdivision layers so that I can progressively build the forms out without it becoming lumpy.

If I’m just trying to build a basemesh, I’ll be looser with dynamesh until I get the overall form/silhouette, at which point I’ll use zremesher and go from there.

Sometimes I’ll use primitives to block out the shape of the object instead (usually for hard-surface objects). Since the plan in these cases are to sculpt detail rather than the form, I’ll dynamesh with as large a resolution as needed.
