IRC chatroom, and a tutorial on how to use IRC.

Since I have nothing to do lately, I’m making a Zbrush chat, and everyone is welcome to join.

now I know many people don’t know how to use IRC, or how to even connect to a chat in IRC, so here are instructions of how to do so.

First, if you want to do this the easy way, you’ll need a GUI Client for IRC, and the best one is mIRC.
http://www.mirc.com/get.html

goto that link and download the program from a location that matches your own. If you can’t seem to get the file from your location, try somthing else, as all the US based servers host the same file.

For Mac users, there is http://www.ircle.com/

I will come right out and say it, I’m not a Mac user, nor do I know anything about the Macintosh OS, but if you know your OS, you should be able to use this program with little problems.

Ok, now for the instructions on how to use mIRC on a Windows based Operating System-

Step one!
Install mIRC or the client of your choice.

Step 2!

Simply click the mIRC Icon to start up the program.

Step 3!

You will see this screen, and you have the option to register, though I never registered, and have been using the program for weeks now. For now though, just click CONTINUE.

Step 4!

this is a the first window you will see after you press CONTINUE. Simply fill out your name(NEVER USE YOUR FULL REAL NAME!!!), your e-mail address, Fill in a nickname(like a screen-name on AOL or AIM), and an alternative nickname incase your name is in use.

STEP 5!

ok, to get to this screen, you simply need click the SERVER button, right below the CONNECT button.

Simply use the little pulldown arrows to enable the pull down menus, and selected the IRC NETWORK and IRC SERVER.

For this example, and for my chat which is now open all day, you need only select what you see in the picture.

after that, simply press CONNECT TO SERVER, and you will begin the connection.

STEP 6!

Finally, when you hit this screen/prompt, you need only type in the name of the room.

My room is called Zbrush-com, but for mIRC to know where to go, a “#” symbol is required to enter the room.

Aside from that, you simply need to chat, as you would in any chatroom.

however, in order to do certain things, you will need to use a “/” sign before them.

For instance, changing your nickname on the fly is easy, and to do that, you need only type

/nick RonsoLe

and your Nickname will change to the one you just typed.

also to do actions, its basically the same.

/me types alot of text in the window

This would be displayed in Purple, as “NeoHunter typers alot of text.”

anyway, thats all you need to know to use the program, and I hope that even if you don’t check out this chat, or the other chat made a while ago, you at least learned how easy mIRC can be.

Anyway, sorry this post is so huge, but it seemed like people were avoiding the chat because they didn’t know how to get into a chat.

Sorry about the length, but as always,
happy Chatting and Zbrushing all

That brings back loads of memories…use to chat on mirc, but haven’t done it in years. Maybe I’ll install it again and see you in the chatroom.

The chat is still open…and I can’t sleep XD

Feel free to drop by, I’ll try not to pass out while in the chat though

Also, if you come in and see someone in there maybe just idle a bit and that person will reply. The other day a couple folks would come in for a sec, and if they were not responded to immediately they just dipped out. Folks are busy and can’t chat all day, but I try to toggle back and forth from work/fun to see what’s going down in the chat. So, stick around and give it a few minutes. Someone is bound to help ya out.

How about no reply in an hour…

No, actually that person was passed out in front of the keyboard.

Yes, I was out all night, and I woke up around 1:52 am, and then went back to sleep.

I’m trying to maintain the room, but after waiting like 6 hours for people, I somewhat gave up on thinking people would show up.

We also have to consider the time zones. On my end it’s +6 hours. But I’ll be back…

ok, in order to stop people from showing up when others are either idle, or not around, and to make this work till more users show intrest, I have set hours that the chat will be open

Monday-Friday
10am-4pm and 8pm-midnight (unless otherwise noted)
Saturday and Sunday
All day (I may or may not be in the chat, but it will be open.)

I’m located in NY, and that is Eastern time, which means, if I’m not mistaken, its a 5 hour difference from other times.

Let it be known that I am not running a server, and at times, the room may not not be up. Also, just because someone does not respond does not mean they are not interested, they may just be busy.

Last but not least, the chat would be the best place to exchange thoughts on Zbrush, chat about random stuff, and for the new members, a place to ask the masters questions.

and of course, everyone is invited, so why not join and chat for a bit.

Thanks for your time Zbrushers

we were running a zbrush chat on the random sorcery.net for a long time around here…some still use it I think on Monday nights…aka Monday Night Chats and or Challenges…we used the room #zbrush3…try that tonight around 7-8 central time…you maybe able to meet a few people there. Mirc is fun. laterz taterz
