International model production / file export questions from a newbie

Hello, and my immediate apologies for my ignorance; despite digging on the Internets, I’m still quite confused.

Years ago I started learning ZBrush for a project that in the end, failed, because I was unable to export an IGES file for overseas model production. Now, a similar opportunity has arisen, but this time they need a STEP file for model production. Obviously, I don’t want to use ZBrush if I won’t be able to export proper file types upon completion of my work.

I realize there are expensive file conversion services, but short of that, are there work-arounds with the other 3D programs that could bridge the NURB/poly-whatever issue?

Do any of you export ZBrush files for factory production as opposed to 3D printing? And, if so, what file formats or exporting techniques do you use? Any other advice for a Zbrush enthusiast / modeling beginner?

Many thanks for your collective knowledge. I love the program and really hope I can figure out a way to continue!

Best,
LRB

Hi Doug,

Thanks for your response. I had found that import / export link, but my concern was that the file types needed by factories (STEP or IGES) aren’t readily part of the list. I’m wondering if all hope is lost, or, if in the years since I last had this issue, maybe better / cheaper options have presented themselves? Wondering how other ZBrush users deal with this issue or if they pay for expensive file conversions, etc.

Any thoughts are welcome and appreciated!

Cheers,
LRB
