So, here’s something fun:
- Create a new layer.
- Use ZBrush’s smoothing tools to make details less pronounced.
- Set the layer’s influence to a negative number, and those details become exaggerated.

Attached is a ZScript to demonstrate. It also uses the morph brush to tone back some of the changes.
(I don’t know what kind of system requirements you’ll need. I subdivide once and I add a single layer. ZBrush tells me it’s using 145 megs of RAM)
I’m not sure I convey this point strongly enough, but 3D Layers kick ass. Experiment with them in non-linear ways – they’re the solution to problems we’ve never even thought about!
