Instances, Edit Mesh and Symmetry (Mirror and Weld) issue

Hi,

when I create an instance subtool, mirror it on e.g. the x-axis and use ZModeler > Spin Edge to align it properly - as shown in Michael Pavlovich’s video (https://youtu.be/eOKYcyByBA4?t=166) - it looks good (when symmetrical). But I have noticed that, when it is not symmetrical (along the z-axis in this case), the new instance is flipped along that axis. I.e. the front and the back are in the wrong direction (I hope the attached image makes my explanation somewhat clearer  )

What would I have to do to get instances that are x-symmetrical also properly symmetrical along the z-axis?

Hello @NeroX

This appears at present to be either a bug or a limitation of the tool. Pixologic is now aware of the issue.

The issue is this: Spin Edges will not correct the mirroring for a nano that is not, in itself, symmetrical. The mirror and weld operation changes the point order of the placement polygons in a problematic manner.

If your nano is symmetrical in itself along its own x axis, there shouldn’t be an issue. In a situation like this, however, it would be better to work on the nano on one side of a symmetrical mesh only, then convert it to live geometry and mirror and weld it as normal.

Hello @Spyndel,

thank you for your reply! Good to know that Pixologic are aware of it now. Maybe we’ll have a fix/an improvement in a future update.

I just wanted to know if it’s actually how it is right now or if I was overseeing anything.

I’ll try to work around it in the meantime.
