The InstallAnywhere installer dies on my machine without any warning- the very first window you see when you launch the installer. When the progress bar reaches 100% - POOF…nothing. I downloaded the installer twice, rebooted my machine and ran nothing else during the installer. The Sun Java Plug-In also tanks on install so that can’t begin to remedy the problem. I DO know what works very well though: winzip. From the most perfect to the most abused and confused windows systems still run it predictably. I heard an old adage that if it’s stupid but it works…it ain’t stupid. There, I’m done being frustrated. Any ideas?
If the progress bar has reached 100%, then odds are Z2 is fully installed. Did you try looking for the directory where you told the installer to put ZBrush? There most likely is a folder there, with ZBrush inside it waiting for you to launch it.
Edit: What is most likely happening is that the installer is crashing when it tries to create your shortcut(s). If there is no ZBrush folder to be found where you specified, then please try reinstalling with the “No shortcuts” option checked.
I wish I could get to the point where I CAN tell the installer where to put ZBR2 - instead I get about this far. This image was taken about 2% shy of a crash.
Ok, so it’s crashing while preparing to install, as opposed to during the install itself.
Since your attempt to install Java also crashed, that indicates that the problem lies somewhere on your system itself. Maybe an aggressive antivirus program? Our installer and their installer are totally unrelated, so it’s impossible for the problem to be with the installer itself.
That’s possible, I’ll talk with the IT dept tomorrow about this and let you guys know if it’s useful. The place I’m at has pretty bullet proof IT so I know the machines aren’t flaking out at least. I’ll give this a shot at home on my own machine tonight and praise you guys for your brilliance in the morning. Have a good one!
Having the exact same problem. mine then says “cannot create java vm.”
If you receive the message that java vm cannot be created, you need to install Java. It’s available from www.java.com. There’s a green box at the top right of the page, with a button for installation.
Hate to chime in as a me too but I have pretty much the same problem only a different error message and my OS is WinXP…
LaunchAnywhere Error
"Can’t launch executable.
Could not find class: com/zerog/lax/LAX
Any help at would be greatly appreciated.
Have you installed Java, or no? There is also a utility available at www.java.com to ensure that it is installed correctly on your system.
I do have Java installed, but will try the utility that you posted…will let you know how I make out. Thanks so much.
why in the heck do we need to jump through so many hoops to get this app installed? It doesn’t install on my machine at work or the one at home. Didn’t winzip work just fine before or is this a security and lisenceing issue?
It’s so frustrating, I was able to install it on my work pc, but still a no go at home, even had trouble trying to install the lastest java app, so I’m not really sure how I’ll get around it for home…
Yes, WinZip is great – for those people who know how to use it. Most people, however, are used to installers, and installers have fewer installation difficulties than the WinZip alternative. Your problems are the exception, rather than the rule, and we will work with you to resolve them if you will give us a chance.
First, it is far more constructive to contact us by email in this sort of circumstance so that we can assist you directly rather than posting messages here at the forum with only part of the info that we need to be able to help you.
RedEye, I have asked you several times if you have installed the virtual machine. You have yet to answer that. Until you have installed it (which only takes a matter of a few minutes), there is nothing more that we can do to assist you. The installer requires the VM environment.
cwshorty, do you have antivirus software running? If so, please be sure to disable it before you try to install the current version of Java, and also before you try to install ZBrush. Installers place program files on your computer. Antivirus programs are designed to prevent that from happening. You should always disable any antivirus software before installing any program, then reenable it after. Please let me know if that resolves your problem. If it does not, please send me an email with your system information and any error messages that you are receiving so that I can try to find a solution for you.
or “anti-anything”, in fact
some anti trojans or Firewall as Kerio can bloc some exe process or installer process.
Don’t know if you found the solution, but I got this too. I remidied it by going back to the download page and using the second “more reliable” method. You need to install some installation software with this method. I think that is what fixes it.
Matthew, I really appreciate all your help. I was hoping to find the answer in the forum before resorting to emails. I can certainly understand the reasoning behind trying an installer, at any rate, after installing it at work, I zipped up the files that were in the directory after the installer finished and burned it to CD to install at home which worked fine. I’m sure it’s not the ideal way but it was worth a try.
I will try to work out the Java thing, it just got alittle too confusing…
