Insect Reference Images?????

Hi,

Was wondering if anybody has/knows of any really good closeup reference images of the ‘european earwig/Forficula auricularia’?

I’ve found a lot of the good ones I think via google etc that show the overall but none of them are REALLY closeup, showing all the details, various parts fitting together, the legs and those little barbs they seem to have on the feet, the ‘panel lines’ on the abdomen. The images could either be online in books.

I really need these close up macro photos to model the details in zb, otherwise I will be bodging the anatomy! I don’t know much about the anatomy of insects so if any of you insect buffs (I know there are a few of you lurking!) have anything to offer that would be brilliant. For instance, maybe you don’t know of any photo of this particular species mouthparts but know of a great image of another insect that has an almost identical configuration etc etc.

Something like that ?

ps Or This one?

Thanks for that. I’ve got most of the good google ones I think but there were a couple of good ones hidden away that I found from your link of the mouth undersides!

cheers frenchie!

my connection really sucks right now so i can’t check out what Frenchy gave you but he started a thread in this forum about interesting links that has alot of good references for everything…some good bug ones…which he probably gave you.

i posted an excellent one too somewhere hahahaha in a thread about bugs i think. i don’t know and can’t check at the moment if a search on aminuts would turn it up…but it is one of the best macro sites on bugs i have ever seen.

I wish I could help more at the moment but as it is I have had to stop and wait 4 times to post this.

…link by you Animuts  Insects (post#9)
And sorry it’s the first day that I realy good look your name Aminuts! (Dislexy reading) :o

ps insects.org above stay the best start

Hi, thanks for the links I’ll have a trawl through the sites and see if there is anything I haven’t already got. Main area I’m not sure on is the mouthparts…I’m lacking a really good view of the head from the front showing exactly how the mandibles etc relate to the other parts. Insects are amazing but quite complex designs really.
