Having an issue importing massive PLY meshes into ZBrush even when using the PLY plugin. The files are between 2 to 5 GB file sizes. Always getting an error when I try to import. Below about 2 GB is okay. Does anyone have any advice about how I can get these larger PLY files imported? I’ve tried also using Meshmixer and it is crashing on me.
Assuming there is not a file error, I’m guessing that maybe the mesh size exceeds the maximum size for a subtool in Zbrush. PLY files can only contain a single object I believe and ZBrush is limited to 100 million points. If the faces are mostly quads then that is also about 100 million quads. If you don’t know the number of points/faces then try installing the Open Source tools MeshLab. Read the file and check size. Split up or reduce poly count in MeshLab. Good Luck.
