Imported obj file shows 338.374 polycount but goes to zero if moved

I don’t understand how a mesh that shows in the work space loses it’s poly count if I try to move, or rotate, even after I reduce the poly count. What am I doing wrong?

It appears ZBrush doesn’t like a mesh that isn’t just a one sided surface. This model has a thickness but redone as a meshed surface it is usable in ZBrush. I still would like to know why.

Hi @Buddahaid

Sorry you’re having some trouble!

A picture of the model outside of zbrush isn’t as helpful as a picture of the model inside zbrush with the full interface visible. Let us see what is happening in the program when you have the issue.

Thanks. In the first screen grab you can see the poly count and mesh count shows content, but when I try to rotate or move the model, the poly count and mesh count drop to zero as shown in the second image.

Ok, few things.

  1. :warning:There’s a free update available for the program. The current version is 2019.1.2. Make sure to pick that up. The updates are free and come with fixes and new features, and we can’t troubleshoot problems if we have to factor in potential issues with obsolete program versions.

  1. Assuming the second screenshot is in fact the “before” picture, your mesh is not in Edit Mode. It is not a live 3d mesh until you draw out your tool and enter edit mode. Until then it exists as pixols, and cannot be rotated or edited.

  1. The only way I can replicate the disappearing mesh count part of your issue is to try rotating the tool by dragging on the rotate button while the mesh is drawn on the canvas, but not yet live.
  • This tells me you may want to familiarize yourself with the various navigation methods in Zbrush. If you had attempted to rotate the model with a more conventional method, for instance simply left-click dragging in empty canvas space, what probably would have happened is you just would have kept drawing out new pixol images in 2.5d form. It was this aspect of your problem that confused me a bit.

Thank you, I missed the update notice and will dl it now. I’ve had the model in edit mode and it still loses the poly count and yes, I did get the images reversed but I don’t see an edit post feature here. Weird, I see the edit button now. Apparently when I post the screen grabs they don’t resize right away and blocked the buttons from view.

It still loses the poly count while in 3D mode if I try to rotate or move. I can only assume ZBrush considers that model invalid for some reason even though other software doesn’t.

Apparently the model was invalid to ZBrush. I loaded it into Autodesk ReCap Photo and then exported it using the remake option and ZBrush now likes it.

Thanks for the assist.
