CGTalk Restored - Data lost between 6-14 May (05-14-2004 until 05-30-2004)

Boy, did we get done good…
On the 14 May at 4.34AM CST, it was noted by our ISP that the CGTalk main database server was exploited and used maliciously to conduct Denial of Service attacks. As a result, the server was pulled from the network, investigated, and all service restored shortly.
In our investigations, we found that the entire structural integrity of the database was compromised. We also found that CRON was hacked, and that the last working backup of CGTalk was dated 6th May. We have since restored this database.
All data between 6 May and 14 May is unusable and considered lost.
What this means:
- If you posted anything between 6-14 May, it’s gone.
- Any users that signed up between 6-14 May, your membership is no longer kept on our system.
Our technical staff will be monitoring the servers and are upgrading them all with better security, updated kernels and such to hopefully prevent future occurences. We’re also updating our contingency plans and disaster recovery mechanisms.
We’d like to thank all CGTalk members for your continued support. As the site has grown immensely, we have also become a more popular target for hackers and exploiters.
